Announcing the US Polar Leadership Project 🇺🇸 As we near the next IPY and US Chairship of the #Arctic, US leadership in the poles will be more important—and more closely scrutinized—than ever before. But our ability to demonstrate leadership, and to exert the influence of our presence in the Arctic and Antarctica—is on thin ice. The years leading up to these events is an excellent time to launch new initiatives, platforms, and capabilities for maximum visibility and effect. It’s time to start now. The US Polar Leadership Project is a multiyear, multi-agency initiative spotlighting the necessity and benefits of American engagement in the poles. Visit the US Polar Leadership Project webpage (https://lnkd.in/gXNSRJaf) to follow along as we highlight opportunities for US leadership in the polar regions. 🗓️ Join us October 9th for the public event, "Tackling the Root Causes: #FoodInsecurity and Forced #Migration in #LatinAmerica" hosted by the Wilson Center | Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative and Wilson Center Latin America Program. #Migration within and from #LatinAmerica is multifaceted and driven by factors such as #FoodInsecurity. Food scarcity in the region has become a structural problem, exacerbated by recent crises that include the COVID-19 pandemic, Russian invasion of Ukraine, and worsening effects of climate change, all of which have impact on the supply chains. Initiatives to improve food security can help curtail irregular migration within the region and from Latin America to the US. This discussion will encompass the linkage between hunger and migration, the role of organizations in building hope, and sustainable solutions to tackle this issue.
