A day in the life of Retail. When I was in corporate and had a job interview, I always got the same question about my resume: “You managed Eddiebauer stores? What was that like?” People are fascinated if you have management experience at a storied and cherished brand. Working at Brooks Brothers as an Assistant Store Manager is no different. Actually, running a store is a lot like running a business. Because it IS a business that someone has entrusted to you to run. Retail is a great training/proving ground for building a knowledge and experience base in sales, project management, relationship building, hiring, human resources, merchandising, inventory control…the list is endless. What I love best about running a store, is the opportunity to leave my footprint on a business with my creativity and sales performance. Last week I was the top seller in our location and I’m one of a group of formidable sales people. Check back here for fun retail stories and sales hacks! #retailtherapy #retailsales #salesexperience

Virtual Assistant, specializing in providing exceptional support to artists and entrepreneurs with my PEACH method • People Person • Creative being • Social media specialist
I wish sometimes people could see a little bit further when they read a CV with store manager experience. It’s NOT ONLY “store manager”, it’s way more then that. It should not be this difficult to find a job outside retail after spending all of this years multitasking and learning from basically every department, plus doing tasks that are not even in the description of a Store Manager position. I really feel a lot of job positions could benefit from the experience of a Store Manager. I’m still ready to take on new challenges outside the usual retail scene. #storemanager #opentowork #inbetweenjobs #newchallenge

Highly skilled loss prevention professional with district and multi-unit w/ exceptional internal, ORC and audit experience
Can honestly say this is the longest period of time I have gone without having a AP / LP position. I'm told my resume is impressive along with my results with previous companies. With that said I keep losing positions to other candidates that don't have the proven record that I have. I can only assume why but this isn't the place to list those rants. So here is a question. What other positions have any of you transitioned into outside of AP / LP? So far I have applied to store manager, OPs manager, inventory control and assistant manager positions without an interview. Has retail changed that much or are they moving on from the old dogs for new tricks. Last if your in the Northern NY area and have a store in need, because your shrink is out of control or need a culture change within your team to increase sales and reduce theft let me know. #diversityandinclusion #lossprevention #lpjobs #assetprotection #retailjobs #jobmarket #retailtheft #shirnk #inventorycontrol

13 Insights From 13 Jobs - Part 3/13! I first applied to Hot Topic when I was 16, in high school, thinking the people who worked there were soooo cool - and then it was super cool when I turned 20 and got to work there myself! I quickly moved up to a seasonal keyholder - and probably in part because of the ruthless upselling habits I made at Game Stop (which was last week's post...) What I learned was how to frame things so that there was benefit for both the customers and the company. With the introduction of Hot Cash, on paper, it was a "free" $15 for every $30 customers spent - but instead I pitched it to customers as "Get $45 worth of stuff for $30." Your customer should always be your goal - but sometimes you gotta satisfy the company to get that upward mobility. Pictured: The Hot Topic I worked at in Tanforan Mall. It is - you guessed it - right across the way from the Game Stop I worked at, which was right next to the Coldstone I worked at. At one point, I worked at all three at once!

𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 When applying for a retail position, you should expect the interviewer to ask about your prior experience with retail or customer service positions, such as: • Have you ever worked in retail? • How long have you worked in retail? • What type of retail stores have you worked for? • How comfortable are you offering styling suggestions to customers? • Do you have experience managing inventory? • Are you experienced with folding and presenting clothes for sale on the floor? • Are you comfortable asking customers to sign up for the company credit card? • Tell me about a busy time when you were working and how you handled the rush of customers. • How long do you intend to stay in retail as a career? • Have you ever been a manager or informally placed in charge of running a shift at a previous retail job?
