Happy Easter. Happy New Month and welcome to April. As we embark on this fourth month of the year, let us reflect on the significance of the number four. Did you know that the number four symbolizes the essential elements of air, water, fire, and earth, representing unity and balance in nature? Furthermore, the concept of four symbolises the significance of unity and collaboration in the pursuit of life's goals. My experiences with collaboration have varied; while most have proven mutually advantageous, some have not unfolded as anticipated. Nevertheless, I remain a devoted advocate of collaboration. As we step into April, it is an opportune moment to recognize valuable collaborative opportunities and harness them to achieve shared objectives personally, in careers and businesses, thereby fostering a more positive impact on the world. But, remember to establish clear and mutually agreed-upon boundaries, laying a solid groundwork for successful collaboration. To ensure effective collaboration, key elements include: -Defining mutual goals -Establishing rules of engagement -Clarifying roles and responsibilities -Outlining operational structures with deadlines -Fostering mutual commitment and upholding accountability. Have you engaged in collaboration before? If so, what benefits did you derive from it, and what valuable lessons did you glean from the experience? #AbiesSonia #collaboration #happynewmonth #number4 #HappyEaster

While having dinner with some colleagues the other day, we got into chatting about each other's qualities. I realized that in workplace It can happen that we focus on showcasing only our strengths to feel more confident and appear as high-performing as possible. However, I believe it's equally important not to hide our weaknesses (don't worry, nobody is good at everything!), and on the contrary, share them with our team! The reason why diversity within teams is so important is precisely this, and knowing each other’s strengths and weaknesses will allow you to: • Let people help you when things get tough 🤝 • Make a bigger impact in projects where you excel 🚀 • Build a stronger, more genuine bond with your team members 💪🏽 What do you guys think about weeknesses ?

We had a 3-hour non-stop sober laughing night as a team! Here are 3 things I’ve realised about team bonding and leadership: 1. It’s a myth to think you need alcohol to have a good time with people at night or after an event. A good nourishing team bonding conversations night tends to make everyone feels inclusive. Nobody is made to feel more than or less than whether they drink alcohol or not. I’m not an alcohol person. In some situations, I was made feeling less than what it is just because I don’t drink. But why? If the people who doesn’t drink alcohol didn’t make people who drink less than who they are… And if the people who doesn’t drink didn’t force the people to not drink… Then why is it vice versa? It’s interesting isn’t it… Being respectful in everyone’s choice is very important. It’s not the alcohol, it’s what people are made to feel when they drink or not drink. 2. Nobody is above or below the conversation. Whether you are the CEO, junior, senior… It doesn’t matter. Nobody needs to be the “main hero” of the conversation. The sign that the conversation is going the right way… Almost everyone is feeling SAFE to express. They feel they are ALLOWED to speak… They are COMFORTABLE in sharing their heart out… Not fearing if something is fit or not. Everyone is equality given the opportunity to express contribute to the conversation. 3. We walk away the conversation feeling more connected, not more separated. Let that line sink in a little bit… That reflects the quality and the content of the conversation. —— No one team is perfect… We’re learning, growing and evolving as we go! What’s your thought on this?

Collaboration. It’s one of those curious words as it has both positive and negative definitions…it’s called a contranym which is a word that has opposite meanings depending on the context of its use. Collaboration can be the action of working with someone to produce something. Or the traitorous cooperation with an enemy. As with many things, context is key. Context from Latin ‘contextus’ meaning a joining together, to weave together. The context, the ‘so what’ of this post is the theme for my week has been collaboration of the first kind, it has been filled with working with exceptional Stonegate Group people to produce something great. Thank you to the General Managers and Area Managers who so generous donated your time to creating an open space for sharing ideas, insights and reflections during our listening sessions this week. When in retail I believed the truth was in the stores, in hospitality it is in the sites for sure. Invaluable collaboration and a week’s highlight of meeting with all of you. Then a huge thank you to the managed operations team and our cross functional partners who created a truly collaborative space this week between operations, commercial, finance and marketing as we worked to coauthor and co-create plans to continue to strive and innovate to give our guests the best experiences. The dialogue and clear communication was great to be a part of and we truly did set the context for the year ahead by joining together to weave the plans. Collaboration is a team sport. Partnering the inch-wide mile-deep expertise and specialisms of the support teams with the inch-deep mile-wide knowledge and skills of the operations team, we shaped ideas bigger and better together than we could ever do alone. And as I started with, context is everything. In the spirit of moving more for mental heath awareness week, as a family we set up table tennis outdoors in the sun last weekend. With the weather turning a bit, I suggested we tidied it away so it didn’t get wet and headed off for a couple of days. With hindsight, my communication and contextualising could have been clearer…or maybe my traitorous boys were collaborating against my desire for a clear spaces as this is what I returned to… #collaboration #context #hospitality
