Speaking Legally: A Glance Back at Human Rights History Brief lesson from history: ever heard of the Cyrus Cylinder? 539 BC, a new charter issued by King Cyrus of Persia. Our commitment: shedding light on these issues, relentlessly pursuing justice, globally. Remember, #JusticeNeverSleeps. #SpeakUp #HumanRightsHistory

“When a nation becomes obsessed with the guns of war, it loses its social perspective and programs of social uplift suffer.” To speak about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s dream, you must not neglect to recognize his nightmare. The nightmare being the insidious ways that racism transformed after integration. How the Vietnam War became a distraction to a nation where war propaganda headlines replaced the racist events happening on American soil. And although the Civil Rights Movement has brought about immense changes in attaining equality, we must acknowledge the repetition of certain themes that were prevalent during this era that persist today. As we are looking back at speeches of MLK and Malcom X while witnessing the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Palestine, I want to acknowledge that Black history is History. Period. When the world learns about History and the great minds who understood the nuances of oppression and the various forms it took, we could learn how to combat all forms of hate to truly work towards MLK’s dream of non-violence.

Here recently, I published my first article about my experience at the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington. My time there has led me to believe that the modern Civil Rights Movement is greatly distorted compared to its birth. If you are curious on how I came to that conclusion, take a look at my article! https://lnkd.in/et6-ycxv
