Markides Associates are delighted that Retirement Villages Group Ltd secured planning permission at Epping Forest’s planning committee last week for their Chigwell later living development. With the planning officers celebrating the design excellence and the landscape-led masterplan. The development provides 144 homes for the over 65, offering a purpose-built net-zero carbon environment, with the homes supporting an independent lifestyle in a safe environment, with access to local amenities and on-site facilities. 🗺 My hometown of York, ME was just included in the top 7 Atlantic Coast beach towns for retirees. Retirees: here is my experience from 23 years living in town. BEYOND just the summers that people associate with York... --- 1) 🏖 Summer life is entirely different than the rest of the year Not in a bad way! Our population 5x's in the summer. The same beaches are here year-round... but only a fraction of people are. Throw on a jacket- it's still just as beautiful. 2) ❄ Winter is not that bad Just because you're moving to Maine, a lot of people will assume we live in igloos and are next door neighbors with Santa when winter rolls around. It's not that bad... The ocean keeps coastal towns warmer in the winter than inland communities. Now? We may get 4 or 5 snow storms a winter. Usually it's gone by the next day. You could fly South like many retiree snow-birds... But really, your time spent digging out of major blizzards is limited now. 3) 🤝 The community is CLOSE When you live here year-round, there's no avoiding it! It's a small town. You'll find that just about everybody knows just about everyone else. Don't be scared. The overwhelming majority aren't York natives. They moved here for much the same reasons you might- beaches and a more peaceful life. But residents here are not just beachgoers. We're the business-owners and workers that make this town go around.
