The nephew of one of our recruiters is from Generation Z. Check out this interesting story. Jose (one of our recruiters) has a 24-year-old nephew who is looking for a cooking job in Mallorca. Of course, he wants to spend the summer there with the sun, the beach, the sea... You know, the good life. ✅ He says he's seen many interesting job offers but the working hours don't suit him, and he has to work every day of the weekend. Also, he's noticed that most restaurants are a bit outdated and could modernize and offer more sustainable and technological experiences. That's a proper generation Z guy 😀 For him, it's important that the company is flexible and that besides working hard, he can have quality of life, flexibility, and teamwork. After all, feeling motivated at work is important, and we've told him that at Cooking Europe, we work with many companies that do adapt to flexible work and new ways of teamwork. Well, to summarize, we've sent him a list of the hotels and restaurants that work with us and meet what we believe is important. We will let you know if in the end he was hired. 🌟 Motivation as the core 💼 Flexibility and work-life balance 🚀 New ways of working 🤝 Collaboration and teamwork 🌿 Healthy lifestyles 🔮 Future perspectives Future perspective is a crucial aspect for Generation Z. And for who isn't it? #MotivatedWorkforce #FutureOfWork #InnovationAtWork #TalentRetention

“Fast-paced” - two words that trigger intrigue or alarm in job ads. Currently, 269 Accounting jobs on Seek in Sydney state their working environment is “Fast-paced.” Is this possibly the biggest red flag of all? Some perceive it as a warning sign, associating it with long working hours, high-stress levels and a potential risk of burnout. Conversely, some are drawn to such language. These individuals see it as a challenge, a signal of high energy levels and continuous learning opportunities. Ultimately, it is a matter of personal preference and work style. What is your perspective on 'Fast-paced' work environments?

“I hope suffering happens to you.” This was a quote from from Jensen Huang’s speech at his Alma Mater Stanford university. In the context of the article I read, he meant :“Greatness is not intelligence. Greatness comes from character. And character isn’t formed out of smart people. It’s formed out of people who have suffered.” Our generation and those after us grew up in a time of increasing wealth and progress. Hardship is a foreign and easily avoidable because options are plentiful in Singapore. Quitting is easy. Solving problems is hard. I have a personal timeline when I am in a new position. Year 1 is to get a lay of the land. Figure out who’s who, how things get done, who are the decision makers and who are the trouble makers etc. Figure out a plan to align what I want to do, what I have to do and how I’m gonna do it. Test the waters, learn to navigate. Year 2 is to activate the plan and pivot when necessary. Year 3 is to take stock and review if there is any progress and if it is worth staying. Year 4, plan for career progression (lateral or vertical) or exit. The stages could be shortened with experience but anything less than a year, tells me the candidate did not give himself or herself a good shot at applying themselves.
Maybe I’m really old-fashioned but I can’t see how #jobhopping can be seen as positive… As an employer, my approach is simple- a job is a match between the organization and the prospective staff. 1️⃣ It’s a two-way street: Organizations provide pay, learning opportunities, career progression and a healthy work environment; Staff contribute in turn their time, energy, intellect and commitment. 2️⃣ Practically, it does take time to learn and also time before staff are contributing back effectively. Hence I remember back in clinical practice the reluctance to take trainees/ residents for anything less than 6-month stints- 3 months to learn, 3 months to use what has been learnt to contribute back. In the non-clinical world, my experience has been at least 1-2 years for this ‘social compact’ to be realized on both sides. 🚩 Anyway, I would be cautious in #hiring anyone who has been in multiple jobs for only brief periods… A red flag for me.

If you’ve met me anytime recently you’re very well aware that I’m hiring for many great positions to work at our new location in Boro Park. Anytime I speak with anyone I’m sure to ask them if they know of anyone whom they can recommend to join our awesome team of caseworkers, managers and receptionists. The hiring process is an exhausting and trying one, but I’ve learned a lot from it. One such example that comes to mind is how in the community it is very common for prospective job candidates to want to know about, and at times even to see, their future workplace and work environment. Often they will ask if they can visit the office space and speak with current staff. Obviously, I have nothing to hide - and to the contrary - I’m extremely proud to show off our space and to be able to share with candidates our staff satisfaction. Therefore, when faced by such a request I happily offer them the opportunity to stop by the office and observe as long as they like and speak with whomever they want. I’m fully aware how this could come across as an odd situation to some. And to be honest, there was a time when I was unsure about this practice myself. But I totally get it. We operate in and serve a community where values and environment are such an important part of life. Families spend a lot of money and expend a lot of energy so that they can live in an area that fits with them and that they’re children go to schools that are a good fit for them. Why shouldn’t their workplace deserve the same attention? So, the next time you interview someone and they ask to see their future workplace or speak with their future colleagues, keep an open mind and try to oblige.

I want to take a moment to encourage agencies to consider hiring Interns/Fellows if you don't already do so. In each of our divisions we maintain two spots for Fellows, and they are tasked with high level projects to ensure they leave the Los Angeles Emergency Management Department (EMD) prepared, well rounded, and experienced enough to achieve their next step in their career plan. In my division, my Fellows are Loren Barbosa and Faith Mayhew. They are the leads in all things Social Media. In addition they take on special assignments such as creating an hour long presentation for the upcoming Congress of Neighborhoods on best practices when using Social Media. For this post I want to highlight an upcoming event that Loren has taken on with help from two other Fellows from another Division; Eric Morgan and Amy Lozano. This team has put together EMD's first Open House in honor of National Preparedness Month. The Open House will consist of Emergency Operations Center (EOC) tours and Emergency Preparedness stations for city employees. The project plan they created is comprehensive and has taken all aspects into consideration; logistical needs, timing, outreach plan, communication plan, social media plan, email drafts, parking, map layout, contact sheet, etc. They have done an amazing job in preparing for this upcoming event. So, in closing I want to share my appreciation for this group, and encourage any organization or group reading this to consider bringing on Interns or Fellows to breath fresh ideas into your organization. Pictured is the Save the Date they created for the All-City email that was sent out for registration to the event.

Brilliant Executive Virtual Assistant Who is Obsessed With Excellent Management and Persuasive Marketing.
Sometimes, I get so busy that I forget to document my growth process. Being a virtual assistant who has transitioned into different roles over the years in the corporate world, I have come to understand the power of personal development in this journey. Starting wasn't very easy but thank God I had a couple of people I could reach out to for guidance, but I didn't stop there. I intentionally took my growth process as if my whole life depended on it, well, of course it does. Looking at myself today, how much I have transitioned, and how well I handle different roles, I just smile and bless God for helping me understand personal/career development early enough. #gratefulheart #FreshGraduate #florencemnwokoro #virtualassistant #humanresourcesmanager #personaldevelopment
