How did three years go by so fast? Our initial B Corp certification took us over two years, a testament to the rigor of the certification process as well as the seriousness with which we took looking into every nook and cranny of our business to amass enough points. Our recertification this year took about nine months, and while it is definitely a slog, I am so proud of our new score, and the changes we made in our business that drove it up. (To be clear, getting a good score isn't the point. The point is to run a better business, and B Corp certification helps hold us accountable for that.) Today was our QBR day, and it's always my favorite day of our five-chapter year. It's a chance to celebrate our team's wins and, most importantly, the learnings from our therapists and how we can better serve them. Reflecting on our journey, we see where we've made good decisions to serve our therapists and where we've had missteps that seemed right at the time for our business. Striking this balance in company building is tough, but it becomes easier when your teams, from executives to staff, stay close to the customer – in our case, the therapists. With each chapter, I can see us getting closer to our goals. The upcoming chapter is particularly exciting as we focus on three key themes from our therapists: Reducing the pain and rewarding the completion of chores Therapist personalization and value adds Access to human experts Lastly, as building cohesiveness and buy-in across teams is important, here's a snapshot from our OKR doc that Kristin Kaiser Mulligan put together to motivate the team around the year. With a value proposition heavily driven by tax, we have a business that operates much like a climbing stage in the Tour de France. This small thematic touch reiterates why our team believes so deeply in KK as our day-to-day operational leader and Company President.

For the first few years in business, I believed that bootstrapping and reinvesting profit was the only way to grow. But you can’t bootstrap your way to millions. I’d never considered accessing capital until a mentor suggested it. Shorter my thereafter, Bhavin Patel, CSCP and Steve Hall planted the seed during a WBENC Conference. Fast forward, my mindset has shifted. Capital provides leverage, and I am forever grateful for the team at Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) for being such trusted partners to support growth for Driven to Succeed, LLC, and to Abbott for co-investing funds to support diverse growing businesses. It was a distinct pleasure to share my story at the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDCHQ) Conference with this esteemed panel, and to encourage others to dream big, take the calculated risk to access capital, and consider a partnership with LISC. (See a picture of the flier in the comments) Capital has given me the opportunity to dream about what’s possible. I have more freedom to stay in my zone of genius because I’ve hired more people, and have stopped wearing so many hats. As a result, the business pipeline has grown, our capacity has increased, we are more efficient, and our infrastructure is even stronger. She is an enormous science enthusiast, particularly in chemistry. What’s your favorite thing about working at FACS? I have the privilege of working with such an amazing, talented, intelligent, fun group of individuals. But mostly, I feel like family at FACS, and it is very rare to find a workplace where individuals feel truly cared for. What is one thing we don't know about you (non-work-related)? I love to read and binge-watch psychological thrillers. What is one thing that you geek out about? All things science; particularly chemistry.....You know the saying....."you can take the girl out of the lab, ......but you can't take the lab out of the girl". I am elated anytime a FACS project takes me to a laboratory environment. It's a total geek fest! What is your favorite store to shop at in-person or virtually? I love to shop at Home Goods. I can browse the isles for hours looking for trinkets, knick knacks and all things Homey & Good!! What makes you laugh the most? Quirky dad jokes. The quirkier, the more belly-aching laugh. I love them! If you were a super-hero, what power would you want? Not sure if this counts as super hero power, but I would love to get my hands on Wonderwoman's Lasso of truth..... What is your favorite random fact? Otters sleep holding hands, so they don't drift apart while asleep. Isn't this awesome? I think they hold the secret to a strong, lasting relationship, both figuratively and literally!
