I still vividly remember the day it was announced that I was the Valedictorian of the ALX Virtual Assistant Course cohort in 2022. I was taken aback, to say the least. It was a surreal moment that left me beaming with pride and gratitude. Giving the valedictory speech to hundreds of young African VA graduate was so humbling with a miss feeling of joy and gratitude to God. Looking back, it's clear that my dedication and hard work paid off. My journey to becoming Valedictorian was paved with consistent effort and a willingness to go above and beyond. I made it a point to be extremely active on the Slack platform, where I engaged with my peers, offered support, and provided guidance whenever needed. I responded to countless questions, shared resources, and offered words of encouragement. My commitment to excellence was evident in my submissions, which were always completed on time and to the highest standards possible. I strived for perfection in every milestone, pouring my heart and soul into each task. The result? I achieved the highest grades possible, a testament to my unwavering dedication. Becoming Valedictorian was not just a personal achievement but also a reflection of the supportive community that ALX fosters. The Virtual Assistant Course taught me the value of collaboration, the importance of seeking help when needed, and the power of community-driven learning. My experience serves as a reminder that success is within reach when we combine hard work, determination, and a willingness to support one another. 🔥 The secret to achieving aggressive study timelines is… 🔥 …building genuine win-win relationships with your sites. Strong study sites relationships are critical to achieving milestones like FPI, LPI, DBL and more. As a CTM, find ways to build personal relationships with your sites, such as: 👉emailing thank you and congratulations messages when site staff completes an important task or supports achievement of a milestone (e.g., enrolls their first subject) 👉visit sites in person - you wouldn’t believe how many sites are shocked when my team has visited them. Many times it’s the first time a sponsor has ever visited. And they have turned out to be one of the highest enrolling sites. 👉highlighting study site achievements in newsletters, webinars or any other communication channels you have with your sites. ❕Tell me in the comments how you build strong relationships with your study sites. 3 Things To Ask Yourself Before Day 1 of Each APPE Block Working with students to prepare them for residency begins with successful APPE experience. Doing well on rotations goes well beyond attendance, and timely submission of assignments. It’s about sending the right message from day one. So I spend time with each of you reviewing your rotation schedules and coming up with a game plan of how to excel in each experience. Here are three questions we work on together to set you up for success 👌🏾👌🏾 1️⃣ What are your my goals for the rotation? Keep in mind that the school and the preceptor have goals for you already; things they want to see you doing by the end of the each rotation. Coming in on day one with a clear goal helps your preceptor design an experience that can be enjoyable and fulfilling. 2️⃣ What NEW skill can I acquire on this rotation? Being intentional about your professional development is one of the most important things for your career. No matter where you are, or who you are learning from, there is always something new to be learned and or sharpened. But you must do the work of researching what some of those opportunities are at your site. Things like, drug monographs, class reviews, newsletter articles, IV room experience, or learning how to put together a lecture and exam questions & SO MUCH MORE‼️ These can be great differentiators for you later, but you have to be on the lookout for them 3️⃣ What resources do I need to be successful in this rotation? Things change so fast in clinical practice. One of the things you learn early is that you need to have your go to for various things. Taking some time to organize your resources will help tremendously. One of the things that you MUST do, is have a way to get to appropriate guidelines related to the disease states you will see in that rotation. You will be glad you did this! BOTTOM LINE: Successful APPE experiences begin with YOU showing up prepared right from day one.
