Safety thought of the day: You spend more time with your work colleagues than you do with your own family. If we start realizing this we will care more, we will communicate more and we will share more. This will lead so safer teams. We cannot get to safety culture excellence alone, it is a team sport. We have the power to be safe right in our own hands. Let's use that power, share that power and enforce that power. #safetyisateamsport #safetyfirst #safetyculture

I attract and retain talents by embracing mobility and strengthening learning culture | Certified Workplace Learning Coach, Assessor and Mentor | Certified PDPA Professional
Organizing a successful team bonding activity for my newbies is not just about planning an event. Rather, the focus is more about how to foster a great sense of belonging and teamwork. It’s important to help them feel welcomed, build relationships, and understand our company culture beyond their job roles. Together with my master coach, we designed ice breaker activities prior to our actual paddle to get to know each other. Apart from safety concerns, we also ensured our paddle activities were inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. We assigned them to different groups so that they can work towards common goals and to have fun together. In reflection, organizing this paddle session required careful thought, planning, and execution. It was rewarding to see my newbies enjoying the team bonding (insisting the on-boarding manager to paddle), laughing (finally having a good opportunity to splash water at the on-boarding manager obviously), and forming connections that will translate into stronger collaboration and benefiting everyone in the long run.

Teamwork makes the dreamwork In a previous column I wrote about the importance of a healthy working atmosphere – which is actually something that every company needs to have in order to run smoothly. If you want to go a step further than just ensuring that your business has a healthy working atmosphere, you can build team spirit. ‘Team spirit’ is the superlative of the ‘healthy working atmosphere’. It gives your business wings. It really does: if your company’s performance when there’s a healthy working atmosphere is fairly average, then with good (or would you say ‘high’?) levels of team spirit things will really pick up steam and you can move mountains. Just take two installers who can't stand each other, and try sending them out together. Then the next day send the same guys out, but this time each with a colleague they get on well with – you’ll see the difference immediately.
