South Korean low-cost carrier T'way Air is accelerating its expansion into Europe with the launch of new routes to Rome and Barcelona. As of 7 June, the airline announced that it had secured the necessary approvals to start flights to Frankfurt in October and is in the final stages of preparations to introduce services to Paris, following an agreement between Korean and French aviation authorities. Starting on 8 August, T'way Air will begin thrice-weekly flights to Rome, followed by the inauguration of its Barcelona service on 11 September. These routes will be serviced by the airline’s Airbus A330-200, which seats 246 passengers. After China Eastern Airlines and Air China ordered a large number of C919 aircraft, China Southern Airlines also ordered 100 C919 aircraft, Boeing and Airbus sales in Asia will enter a downward trend. China's aviation industry chain companies will enter the growth cycle.

The airline's order includes 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, 20 Boeing 787-10 aircraft, and an option for 10 more 787-10s. The value of the deal was not disclosed. The aircraft's "capability of long-haul flights to regions such as North America and Europe are expected to play an important role after Korean Air's merger with Asiana Airlines," according to Korean Air. The era of Airbus and Boeing's dominance in the global commercial aircraft market is coming to an end as China's COMAC makes a striking entry with a monumental $10 billion first order. For decades, Europe's Airbus and America's Boeing have held a firm grip on the global commercial aircraft market. However, a formidable challenger has emerged from China. China Eastern Airlines announced on Thursday that it intends to purchase 100 C919s, marking a groundbreaking deal valued at $10 billion based on list prices. This order is set to be the largest ever placed for the C919, which is manufactured by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). In addition to this significant development, GallopAir, a newly established airline headquartered in Brunei, recently revealed its intention to acquire 30 aircraft from China. The contract, worth a total of $2 billion, includes orders for 15 COMAC ARJ21 and 15 C919 aircraft.

China Airlines eyes either Airbus A350 or Boeing 777X to replace 777-300ERs Taiwan-based China Airlines is eyeing its next aircraft order, with the airline looking to replace its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. In an interview with Bloomberg, the president of China Airlines, Kao Shing-Hwang said the airline is looking at either the Airbus A350-1000 or the Boeing 777X to replace its current Boeing 777-300ERs. According to ch-aviation.com data, China Airlines currently has 10 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with an average age of 8.3 years. While the fleet is yet to enter the second half of its useful life, with limited delivery slots for the A350-1000 and 777X in the near-term future, the airline presumably wants to jump ahead of the foreseeable retirement of the 10 aircraft. Cathay Cargo has announced the selection of the next-generation Airbus A350F freighter to meet its future fleet requirements. Cathay has placed an initial firm order with Airbus for six aircraft and has secured the right to acquire 20 more aircraft. This order for state-of-the-art aircraft to be delivered commencing from 2027 will help further strengthen Hong Kong’s status as the world’s number one air cargo hub, providing even greater cargo connectivity between Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and the rest of the world. Boss Of Russia's S7 Airlines Says 'Reverse Engineering' Must Be Mastered To Keep Aircraft Flying Evgeny Elin, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russia’s S7 Group, which owns S7 Airlines, has warned that airlines that are going to operate the domestically made Irkut MC-21 would have to ground the aircraft periodically due to engine overhauls of the PD-14 engines. As a result, with sanctions in place, Russia needs to learn how to reverse engineer Airbus and Boeing aircraft to sustain an airworthy fleet. What To Expect From COMAC In 2024? As of today, following the successful delivery of one ARJ21 aircraft to China Express last week on December 22 and another C919 aircraft to China Eastern Airlines earlier this month on December 9 (which also marked the first anniversary of the first C919 delivery), Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) has delivered a total of 21 ARJ21 aircraft and two C919 aircraft to its customers in 2023. This also brings the cumulative delivery numbers for these two aircraft models to 121 ARJ21 aircraft and three C919 aircraft. Considering the recovery patterns in the civil aviation industry post-pandemic, although the performance is satisfactory, COMAC still faces significant challenges in all three aircraft programs (ARJ21, C919, C929) as the upcoming year, 2024, approaches. 🇨🇳 China's first homegrown airliner makes international debut in Singapore China's challenger to Airbus and Boeing's passenger jets, the narrow-body C919 manufactured by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), has made its first trip outside Chinese territory. China has indicated a push this year to advance the C919 and COMAC's footprint domestically and internationally. The plane is only certified within China and the first of now four C919s began flying with China Eastern Airlines last year. With Airbus and Boeing struggling to ramp up production and meet demand for new planes, and Boeing struggling with a string of crises, the aviation industry is watching how COMAC positions itself as a viable alternative. #China
