US DOJ - Title II Rule to Improve Access to Medical Care for People with Disabilities Published On August 9, 2024, the Federal Register published the Department of Justice’s final rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to improve access to medical diagnostic equipment (MDE) for people with disabilities. The rule adopts a technical standard for accessible MDE and clarifies how public entities that use MDE, like hospitals and health care clinics operated by State or local governments, can meet their obligations under the ADA. https://lnkd.in/ecnZAhRe

As cited by Korah, Nunbogu and Ahmed (2023): “Equitable access to health care for everyone is a fundamental goal of the SDGs (UN, 2015). However, there are marked spatial inequalities in healthcare access in Ghana (Peprah, Budu, Agyemang-Duah, Abalo, & Gyimah, 2020; Stewart et al., 2016; Yawson et al., 2017). Recently, a number of initiatives have been made to lessen these access to healthcare disparities. Prominent among these are the free maternal health care program (Witter, Adjei, Armar-Klemesu, & Graham, 2009; Azaare, Akweongo, Aryeetey, & Dwomoh, 2020; Dalinjong et al., 2018a, Dalinjong et al., 2018b), the national health insurance scheme to eliminate financial obstacles that restrict access to and utilization of healthcare (Dixon, Luginaah, & Mkandawire, 2014; Witter & Garshong, 2009), and the construction of health infrastructure to serve deprived areas. Despite these interventions, available evidence has established a strong relationship between socio-economic inequalities and healthcare access and utilization in Ghana (Fenny, Asuman, Crentsil, & Odame, 2018; Kuuire, Bisung, Rishworth, Dixon, & Luginaah, 2016; Novignon, Ofori, Tabiri, & Pulok, 2019). Even when health facilities are available, geographic accessibility – defined here as the distance and time spent accessing health facilities – has been identified as a critical challenge (Agbenyo, Marshall Nunbogu, & Dongzagla, 2017; Ashiagbor, Ofori-Asenso, Forkuo, & Agyei-Frimpong, 2020).” We are privileged at ResQ World to contribute to ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare in the nation through our free medical screening efforts. #healthcare #communitydevelopment Prosper Issahaku Korah, Abraham Marshall Nunbogu, Abubakari Ahmed, Measuring access to health facilities in Ghana: Implications for implementation of health interventions and the Sustainable Development Goal 3, Applied Geography, Volume 158, 2023, 103026, ISSN 0143-6228, https://lnkd.in/evzNhTpb. To the glory of God, our urban missions took place as scheduled. It was rewarding to see beaming smiles on the faces of both children and adults, as we demonstrated the matchless love of God to members of the Pokuase-River side estate community through sharing of the Gospel, free health screening and clothe bank. It was a time of deep reflection and joy for volunteers, as participants went through free health screening and were spoilt for choice at the clothe bank section. We are very grateful to our medical and non medical volunteers, our partners and all other stakeholders who made this possible. We look forward to another impactful engagement during our rural outreach in June. Details will be communicated as soon as possible. It will be a delight to have you join us once again or for the first time when the time comes.

My heart wrenched as I watched this video. It was a hard video to watch, especially when Andrew answered the question: Do you want to die at home or in a hospice?" A powerful reminder of hospices' vital work in providing compassionate care during difficult times. I asked myself what was it like for Andrew to make that video. In those first few seconds, you could see a change in his expression as he answered, realising that whatever brought him to St Francis Hospice - who are very good, by the way - his situation was undeniably real. It's a tough place to be. Watching this video made me reflect on how often we are encouraged to be grateful for even the slightest things. While this is a good practice, I invite you to take this further. Consider this: Are you noticing what you are constantly thinking about? Are you replaying past situations, incidents or comments that hurt you? Do you continue to relive it? Because stress is widely recognised as a significant factor contributing to many illnesses. Notice what you are thinking about and ask yourself if those thoughts are serving you to live a happier life. Is it worth it? As morbid as it sounds, the Stoics had a phrase worth remembering: memento mori—remember you will die - as a profound reminder of our mortality and the impermanence of life. I repeat it to myself whenever I notice I'm making a big deal out of nothing. Make the most of your week ahead.
We've been privileged to speak to Andrew, one of the individuals we're currently caring for, and we've been blown away by his honesty and his love and support for the hospice. In this video, Andrew talks about what his hopes for the hospice are. Thank you Andrew for being so candid and for sharing your time with us 🧡 If you also want to read Andrew's story 📖 we've shared it on our website https://lnkd.in/e5J5HDYZ #40thAnniversary

The need to know about hospice. For families, the words hospice care are often met with a wave of uncertainty. As a result, we begin to ask ourselves the difficult questions. Am I giving up on my loved one? Is there more I can do? What are my alternatives? To demystify the road ahead, our team at Ethos Hospice has assembled a guide of what to expect with hospice care. https://nuvi.me/w8c4iy

THREE BOARD OPENINGS AT "OUR NATIONAL CONVERSATION" For quite a while, I've been working with a small army of student interns from across the country, coming up with a way to reduce partisanship and get America talking again. We call ourselves OUR NATIONAL CONVERSATION, or ONC for short (see https://lnkd.in/gJeviJJG). Our focus is on problem-solving, not finger-pointing. We hope to bring about a less angry, more productive America. We just got approved as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we are gearing up to raise money. We have a small board and would now like to round it out and fill in some gaps. In particular, we are seeking: 1) Someone really good at grant-writing and nonprofit fundraising; 2) Someone really good at PR; and 3) Someone from the world of education (we have some ideas we think might be sellable to high schools and colleges). There is no pay at this time, but there is great satisfaction in working on such an important cause. Once we raise money, we want to be fair to all. There is one 90-minute meeting at the end of each of our three semesters (fall, spring, summer) and once in a while we have issues our management team wants to bring to to the board's attention. We will be very open to your ideas. If you come up with a idea we want to pursue, we'll assign a team of students to carry it out. Interested in helping America return to sanity? If yes, please DM me and we'll talk. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Here's to a less angry, more productive America.

In the past year, two juries ordered Acadia Healthcare and Universal Health Services to pay more than $1 billion after minors were raped in their care. The names of investor-owned psychiatric hospital operators like Acadia and UHS have been tarnished by lawsuits and government settlements. But these providers are finding a new way to make money while keeping their names mostly hidden. They're joining forces with bigger nonprofits to build new hospitals to manage the surging number of people experiencing mental health emergencies in the United States. Nonprofit hospitals don’t have many good options for patients who come to their emergency rooms in a mental health crisis. With these joint ventures, they now have a place to send patients, and, as part-owners of the new hospitals, take a cut of the profit. The model also helps Acadia and UHS piggyback off the nonprofits’ strong local reputations. But it's putting unsuspecting patients and staff in dangerous environments while prioritizing profit for shareholders at their expense. Read a new STAT investigation: https://trib.al/xSDo7m9
