Today Ukraine and its friends in Canada and around the globe celebrate 33 years from the day Ukraine’s Declaration of Independence was proclaimed in 1991. 🇺🇦 August 24th honours Ukraine’s sovereignty, democracy and Ukrainians’ continued and inspiring strength and resilience as they continue to fend off a brutal and illegal aggression. 🇺🇦 At the Parliamentary Centre, together with our Ukrainian partner the Agency for Legislative Initiatives Лабораторія законодавчих ініціатив we are proud to continue supporting the Ukrainian Parliament to play its critical roles in supporting the war effort, and non-military resistance to Russia’s illegal aggression. #UkraineIndependenceDay #Democracy

Even the most #influential leaders can be simple and approachable, like Mustafa Dzhemilev, leader of the Crimean Tatar people.

Exactly one year ago, when Kherson was just liberated, I had the great privilege and honor to meet and talk to Mustafa Dzhemilev, leader of the Crimean Tatar people - Hero of Ukraine. Dzhemilev was a leading human rights activist during the Soviet era and served six jail sentences in Soviet prison camps from 1966 to 1986. He is also known for going on a 303-day hunger strike -- the longest in the history of the Soviet human rights movement. He returned to his homeland in the late 1980s along with thousands of other Tatars as Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev ushered in a period of reforms and freedoms known as "Perestroika" and "Glasnost." He later became a member of Ukraine's parliament representing Crimea. He has continued to fight for the rights of his ethnic brethren in Russian-occupied Crimea. Sometimes in life there’s a clear right choice, and a clear wrong choice….👀 In all seriousness, as the war on Ukraine becomes increasingly politicized, there are a few important things to remember: -russia invaded a sovereign nation. ❌ -russia has committed horrible human rights abuses in the country it unjustly invaded. 🥺 -There are still many, many, many innocent civilians who are being targeted every day in Ukraine.😡 -They are not primarily concerned about what party you vote with or what you think of Zelenskiy or whether you think Ukraine should be invaded into NATO now or later, etc. -Yes, all of that stuff may be important to them, but at the end of the day, their primary concern is staying alive and keeping their family alive. 👩👧👧 And so yes, there is a right choice and a wrong choice. Right choice: support (if nothing else) humanitarian aid to these civilians. Help them escape the missiles and shortages and human rights abuses if you can. Wrong choice: Let American politicians make things black and white for you. Do nothing. Let’s make the right choice. On the same day that celebrated the defeat of Nazism, France acted like the Nazis. On 5/8/1945 the Algerians peacefully demanded independence from France after 136 years of invasion: 45,000 massacred, from children to the elderly. The same sadistic hypocrisy today with Palestine. The Algerian War (also known as the Algerian Revolution or the Algerian War of Independence) was a major armed conflict between France and the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN) from 1954 to 1962, which led to Algeria winning its independence from France. An important decolonization war, it was a complex conflict characterized by guerrilla warfare and war crimes. The conflict also became a civil war between the different communities and within the communities. The war took place mainly on the territory of Algeria, with repercussions in metropolitan France. https://lnkd.in/dMz4FfGa

How many innocent Germans died in WWII? How many parliaments and international courts called it genocide? Why didn’t anyone ask what would happen the day after or claim that by attacking the Nazis, all they’re doing is creating the next generations of Nazis? Why didn’t anyone doubt the need to denazify Germany? Why didn’t anyone complain about Japan? Why didn’t the world demand that humanitarian aid be sent into Germany or Japan? Asking for a friend. Below: Hamas stealing the aid sent into Gaza.

On Human Rights Day, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan denounced the continuous I5r@el! ass@ults on G@ z@, citing them as a thre@t to universal human values. In a statement, Fidan expressed heightened awareness of the responsibility to combat human rights violations globally. He emphasized that the persistent attacks in G@ z@ not only infringe on P@lest!n!an rights but also undermine shared human values. Criticizing the international system's weakness in halting the tragedy, Fidan called for collective action to end civilian massacres and establish lasting peace. As the world commemorates the 75th anniversary of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Fidan urged countries to fulfill their collective obligation to address the ongoing crisis. Since the October 7 cross-border attack by H@m @s, G@ z@ has witnessed relentless air and ground assaults, resulting in a tragic toll on both P@lest!n!an and I5r@el! lives. The I5r@el! military offensive resumed on December 1 after a week-long humanitarian pause.
