Car-Free Zones ++ [people oriented vibrant environments] Car-free zones are designated areas within cities where motor vehicles are restricted or completely prohibited. These zones can be found in busy urban centers, historic districts, parks, or public squares, promoting a pedestrian-first environment. The implementation of car-free zones has garnered increasing attention as cities look to enhance the quality of urban life. Without the presence of cars, the risk of accidents involving pedestrians greatly decreases. Car-free zones create a safer environment for walking, cycling, and other forms of non-motorized transport, encouraging more people to engage in outdoor activities.

It's roundabout week, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about bicyclists! 🚲 One stressful intersection can be enough to dissuade someone from choosing to bike to their destination. So how do we design roundabouts for bicyclists? In a roundabout way, we use the same approach to roundabouts as any other intersection! ➕ Simply put, bicycle facilities around roundabouts should meet or exceed the safety and comfort levels bicyclists experience on the approach legs (or will experience in the future if facilities are not yet constructed). 🛋 Read more here 👇 https://lnkd.in/ecWFyNei

Cities with vibrant biking scenes often boast safer streets for everyone. According to Nicholas N. Ferenchak and Wesley E. Marshall, authors of a groundbreaking study, this connection is no fluke. “Cities with high levels of bicycling tend to be some of the safest cities for all road users,” Marshall wrote. The study examined 14 small and mid-sized U.S. cities, each with populations ranging from 50,000 to 200,000 residents. https://lnkd.in/gJpgKGrc
