How well do individual investors understand private markets? How many are looking to invest? And what needs to be done to further democratize the asset class? We put these questions and more to over 100 financial advisors from the leading US wealth platforms who attended our PG Academy events in Denver earlier this year. The results showed that individual investors are seeking to meaningfully increase their exposure to private markets. However, advisors think a significant proportion of them still have a poor understanding of the asset class and there is plenty of work to do to further open the asset class to individual investors. In terms of products, advisors said they spent more time talking about open-ended evergreen funds than anything else. These PG Academy events, which are interactive education sessions for small groups of around 20-60 advisors, were attended by advisors from the largest wirehouses and wealth platforms. Our first PG Academy took place in 2010 and we run multiple academies in the US, Europe, and Asia every year, hosting hundreds of advisors from across our global distribution partner network.
