𝗠𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗨𝗕𝗦 ----> 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 : My time at UBS was extremely gratifying and I had the opportunity to absorb a wealth of knowledge and attempt to critically discuss, analyse and present stocks. It has furthered my readiness for a job in the financial sector. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭  • My first endeavor was attending a meeting with a Berstein analyst alongside equity portfolio manager Maximilian Anderl . The analyst gave an overview of the info-tech market and his top picks for stocks. I was able to both observe the evidence the analyst drew on with interest and further consolidate my knowledge through questions on some difficult concepts. • I also took part in a pitch on the info-tech sector of stocks and got a chance to see analyst opinions on the high interest in semiconductors and Nvidia. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 • I met Kevin Barker who gave a succinct and detailed breakdown of the equity market as well as the responsibilities of a portfolio manager. Kevin Barker has been at UBS since the 80s and gave an insight into the different valuation techniques for value investing. • In addition, I had the pleasure of further honing my understanding of the asset management sector where I met Azhar Asif who clarified the importance of an intermediary between the Portfolio manager and the trader to make sure client needs and regulations are always abided by before the project manager’s trades are completed (ie. Percentage of ESG stocks or carbon emission stocks). • I also gained further details of the numerous other ways in which investors can channel their money, such as through fixed income, real estate etc. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟯 • This was an ESG-driven day. I engaged in critical discussion around the importance of ESG in this age. I had the pleasure to witness UBS’ detailed ESG strategy and why from both an ethical and performance standpoint ESG is so crucial. First, to save our planet and make the future earth hospitable. But also because of the increased probability of regulation hitting non-ESG-friendly stocks. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟰 • The morning of day 4 was heavily centered around the sell side of UBS, looking into Global markets and the operations of the investment bankers. • My favourite part of day 4 was a meeting with UBS software engineer Ronald Kainda, DPhil, which enlightened me about the dynamics of software and banking and motivated my already keen interest in this sector. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟱 • My favourite day. I first talked with the Hedge Funds Solutions department. This area was particularly fascinating, considering the broad range of alternative investments that are used by these funds to try and hit large returns. • The most interesting talk of the week was with investment specialist Stephen Friel, CAIA. He spoke about the complexities of the job, the differing needs of clients and how no two clients are the same. The evolving nature of finance and Stephen’s stellar attitude were both fascinating and eye-opening.

Started with a cup of coffee and reviewed the latest market news and trends. Identifying key movements and potential opportunities is always thrilling. ☕📉 Worked on detailed analysis of selected stocks. Evaluated their performance, financial health, and growth potential. One of the several truly jaringly differentiated things about about this place is the people. They drive our service and culture forward. Who shows up to work at an investment bank in jeans??? Me. I did. 🤦🏽♀️ While technically, my first 'adult' job out of college was as a mutual fund performance data analyst at Morningstar, I learned my toughest lessons as an intern at Swiss Bank (now UBS). Picture it—I am a finance major at one of the best schools in the country. After my freshman year, I land a sweet internship at Swiss Bank inside the Chicago Board of Trade working in the Stock Loan department in the back office. As a 19-year-old, I misunderstood the term 'back office.' I pictured a dimly lit back room or an office in the basement. So, I decided to wear jeans and gym shoes, thinking I would be appropriately dressed for the grim environment. Uh. No. When I showed up for my first day, I saw people in nice suits, heels, jewelry, etc. I was horrified. I wanted nothing more than to disappear into a back office until school started in the fall. I quickly learned what a back office meant and dressed more appropriately afterward. I interned there every summer until I graduated, putting me ahead of the game when I joined Morningstar.
