The City of Austin Young Professionals is a Learning and leadership organization. What We offer: - professional development, - life skills, - volunteering opportunities, and - social events How: we are moving to a more member-led model, empowering members to lead planning and the board facilitating through paperwork and advertising on Teams and through our newsletter. We want our events to be ones that our members are asking for and leading. Why: Improving the City by modeling behavior, creating space for City workers to be developed and develop on their own, so that they can advance and be compensated appropriately. We're an employee resource group, so I'm always thinking about what resources we can provide. We strive to create community and a sense of belonging, and to create the reputation needed to get a seat at the table with City leadership about topics of telework, compensation, recruitment, and retention. We are redefining professionalism. It doesn't matter if your job is listed as professional or technical or whether you work in an office or in the field. Professionalism is a state of mind. It is a constant state of improving while getting to know your coworkers, improving broader processes, and giving back to the community. It's about inspiring new employees and reengaging veteran employees. It's about improving the City work culture and making people feel proud to work for the City. Ecosystem Outreach and Mapping is one of our strategic planning offerings. We work to find answers to the questions: Who is in your ecosystem? Who is in your “community?” What roles do they play? We start with your immediate ecosystem (usually within your organization) and then zoom out to include mentors, partners, supporters, and colleagues outside of your organization. Some of our goals through this process are to find places where your work may overlap with the work of partners so you can find strength in coalition, or to have a full assessment of the work being done in the space of your mission so that we can fully visualize and understand your organization's unique contributions. This helps us (and you) understand where there may be gaps that you have the capacity, (or could build capacity) to fill.
