Former Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman dedicated her 36 years in public office to creating new opportunities in her home county, counties in the southwest region and the state of Indiana. For the past 10 years, she led economic development initiatives as CEO and later board chair of Radius Indiana and Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

This book is bound to be a success
One of my favorite parts of serving as Marguerite Casey Foundation's president and CEO is working with an outstanding board of directors, including the one and only Stacey Abrams. I had the honor and pleasure of spending time with Stacey last month celebrating her latest book “Rogue Justice” with a packed house of fans and supporters. “Rogue Justice” is a riveting political thriller grappling with real-world issues we can’t ignore. If you haven’t read it, I urge you to get a copy today, or ask your library to do so! Congratulations, Stacey, on your latest masterpiece, and thank you so much for all you do for MCF on our board of directors! H/t to the First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for hosting this event, and to Bookmarks for sponsoring this event with support from Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP.

Delighted to have chaired the 25th Anniversary special session of RAID - no - not the insect repellent spray - but Rights and Accountability in Development (RAID) - the highly effective boutique NGO watchdog that's been putting the world of corporate accountability to rights for quarter of a century! Biggest takeaways - more scrutiny needed of the growing and elaborate ESG ecosystem being built up by corporates - whilst a veil of silence grows on rising attacks on human rights defenders trying to do the daily work of - yes you guessed it - scrutinizing business. Surely a paradox worth unravelling.
An end to a very special year at RAID! Here's a throwback to our 25th anniversary event Matrix Chambers where we had the uplifting words of Richard Hermer KC and our distinguished panel to celebrate to. Read our short summary below. Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas break and we'll see you in the new year! 🎄 https://lnkd.in/e_zqBYby

Why do so many relationships in the business world fail altogether or fail to ever materialize? Many years ago, I was a financial advisor in a past life, a little wet behind the ears as the old saying goes. I was very naive in my belief that my expertise and charming personality would be enough to win new business. What I truly failed to realize at that time, was no matter how great my company was, how knowledgable I personally was, how hard I was committed to work, none of those things meant anything to anyone I was trying to do business with. Nobody wants to be sold to, in most cases it truly does come down to growing, cultivating and building lasting relationships. It took me way too long to learn those lessons, but eventually I began to understand the synergy in truly listening, understanding, relating to and building long term relationships where both parties were invested fully in collective success. Fast forward to present day, I was very fortune to come full circle back to an organization that is fully invested in not just my own personal success; but our very fabric is our committment to partner with other organizations in the sports & entertainment sector to advance their operations and work together partnering hand in hand in sync to make our partners brand shine. Woven into our very mission statement is a promise if we don't perform, we will go away. There is literally no way that our organization makes money if you as our partner does not make money. We are committed to changing the game and making a significant impact in how stadium, arena, fan food and entertainment partnerships operate. I would love to discuss our model with you in more detail. Drop me a message or connect and let's chat about making your brand shine in a true partnership agreement. https://lnkd.in/gjCjK8pK #letsgo #letsgrow #partnership #partnershipsmatter #strengthandhonor

Community isn't something you say. It's something you do. 10 years of business showed me a secret. The power of being present. 🙄🙄🙄 When I began my business, I didn't really want to be active in the community. My introverts feel me! 🥺 However, at the same time I saw people being present in the community. I discovered that was just the cost of admission that comes with experience. 💡💡💡💡 The next level is DOING community! 🫱🏽🫲🏾Helping. 🫱🏽🫲🏾Promoting. 🫱🏽🫲🏾Speaking. 🫱🏽🫲🏾Attending. 🫱🏽🫲🏾Sharing. Being a wallflower doesn't really help anyone in terms of community. So get your back up off the wall as they say! What's a community or organization you spend a lot of time DOING versus just watching??? 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 Proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, The Society of Black Agents, NAAIA - National African American Insurance Association, The Atlanta Black Chambers, and The Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce! ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼 #Blacklinkedin #ProfessionallyBlack #community #personaldevelopment #leadership

What truly sets you apart from your competition? I have asked myself that question many times over the past two decades. Is there actually anything that is unique that I can offer or my company can offer in terms of a product, a service anything that completely sets us apart from our competition. Going back to my days in finance, I liked to think that I set myself apart in the service that I offered my clients. I made it a recurring practice to speak with each and every client I had at a minimum of every month. Many times, it was simply to check in with them, see how they were doing, ask how their family was doing and to truly and completely understand any challenges, issues, adversity that they were facing. I wanted them to understand that while I was offering them business services, at a core level I absolutely cared about them and wanted to help them in any possible way that I could. There was many a call that we never in any capacity talked about any business product, no stock tip, no portfolio review, it was simply a call to ask in a meaningful way, how are you really doing today. To this day, whenever I chat with any of those past clients, they often say to me, that they have never had that level of service or conversation before or since with their advisor. I have actively tried to maintain that type of communication to this day in every single element of my business operations. As our great former President Theodore Roosevelt once said, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." What truly sets any of us apart in business? There are very few businesses that exist that are unique in their offerings. There is competition everywhere. How we choose to function, operate, communicate in our day to day goes a long way in earning and retaining business. I want to earn business, and most importantly maintain those relationships and partnerships over a very long period of time by proving I am doing everything possible to help my clients shine, grow their brand, and help them earn their own customers repeat business for years to come. If you are ready to take your food & beverage operation to the next level partnering with a company that will always put your best interest forward, we should have a conversation. Reach out to me today in a message or shoot me an email and let me show you a different way to do business. https://lnkd.in/eWWvVV2P #letsgo #letsgrow #partnershipsmatter #relationshipbuilding #strengthandhonor
