According to Appcast (one of the largest recruitment data providers), the candidate drop-off rate for people who click "Apply" and don't complete the application is 92%. This is a frightening statistic and emphasises the need for a streamlined application process, that doesn't seek unnecessary information. ALWAYS keep the candidate in mind, when creating the process. #keepitsimple

If the idea of a four-day, fully-remote team makes your eyelid twitch, ask yourself a couple of questions... 🤔 Did you invest in a recruiter for hiring? Or did you try to DIY that process and end up focusing on the wrong criteria before giving up and hiring someone recommended by a friend of a friend? 🤔 Did you hire the best fit for the job? Or did you focus solely on cost? (We won't get into how expensive it is to cycle through multiple poor fits.) 🤔 Have developed your people-managing skillset? Or do you struggle to allocate your time and energy where it's most needed? 🤔 Have you done the work required to let go of controlling all the decisions around your company? Or does the idea of a team acting autonomously give you the ick? Obviously, this structure won't work for every startup, but I'm convinced it could for many. And I'm equally convinced that, more often than not, the problem lies with the founder - not the team. Why do I care about this? Because it's no secret that the traditional office model doesn't work well for those of us who also have small humans at home. But neither does a fully "remote" job with back-to-back meetings, 24/7 Slack notifications and a constantly pinging project management app. (If you demand that much of my time, you're not "remote". You might as well just camp out in my living room.) If we're actually going to change toxic hustle startup culture, we've got to start doing the thing. And by "the thing" I mean, smart hiring that builds dedicated teams who will sometimes show up for that extra day in the office because they appreciate how good they've got it. #startups #hustleculture #remotework
