The new requirements for energy efficiency in the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022 will come into effect on May 1. If you constructed a new commercial building project that started 𝗕𝗘𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘 January 30, 2023 - you have a one time opportunity to claim the higher 179D Energy Efficient Commercial Building deduction without jumping through the hoops associated with the increased benefit. How much? The deduction is $5.36 per building SF if completed in 2023 or $5.65 per SF if completed in 2024. Don't think you built your building energy efficiently? You may be pleasantly surprised because most new construction projects meet these standards.
