Well done to the architects, builders, owners, and producers for explaining Passivhaus in a simple video. After all, a Passivhaus building will not significantly increase the building cost but will start reaping benefits from day one. As the builder said at the end, we have to be open to continuing to improve and make things differently.

There are some campaigns that get universal support and others that divide opinion. Humanise is fundamentally about improving our built environment for the better, about enriching the experience of those who use buildings, as well as those who pass by them. Reinstating a sense of civic pride. That’s something I can get behind. The finger pointing -in the book- at architects and at modernism may be simplistic but if we can look past this there is merit in us engaging in a debate about how to improve the expression of our buildings for the purpose of improving our mental health, our environment and our cultural advancement. I’ve contributed an opinion piece to Heatherwick studio campaign arguing that our necessity to address the climate and ecological emergency can actually help us design in a way that enriches our buildings and improve how they look. Read it here and join in, react, provoke or challenge. Humanise.org

This article applies to airports, as well. Travel distance and proper fixture count are always a priority in airport terminal planning.
At a professional sporting event or concert, no one wants to miss the next play or hit song. A hurdle to this? Restrooms. But architects and designers are on top of the new science of stadium restrooms that improve flow and lower travel distance. To address the complexity of the restoration process of #culturalheritage buildings, the sincere-project wishes to give the floor to the buildings themselves and listen to their stories, their needs, their vision. The #buildingstories platform is under development and its goal is to bring together building stories across Europe and create a social media platform where the main actors are the buildings. See https://lnkd.in/emnYXqaq In the mean time, we are collecting good examples of #talkingbuildings, buildings that have been given a voice in creative ways through storytelling, multimedia installations, performances, and more. 👇 Write a comment if you have something to share! And if you don't know of a real example, perhaps you can imagine one? How can we give a voice to building in ways that are meaningful and inspiring? if your answer to the question "what's the coolest thing i could do this summer?" is "build speculative space habitats" (and of course it is), you should check out my brilliant space architect friend fred's workshop in las vegas!
A few weeks ago, we posted a "save the date" message for a workshop for space habitat designers and mission planners that we'll be holding in Las Vegas on July 29, coincinding with the AIAA ASCEND conference. Here's the full invitation! We'll have informal presentations and discussion of our research on space habitats in the morning, followed by a charrette based on principles of design fiction in the afternoon. In the process, we'll facilitate a greater understanding of key issues in habitat design that will lead you to new ways of thinking about your current and future projects. You'll find more details in the attached document. You can register for the workshop at http://bit.ly/4dPCFeI! Participation is limited to just 15 people, so sign up soon, and share with any interested colleagues. Please let us know if you have any questions about the event.

The "Building of the Year created with ALUPROF Systems" competition is is a cyclical event organised every 2 years. 🏆The 5th edition of the competition is addressed to architectural practices and freelance architects whose designs feature systems by ALUPROF SA and were, or will have been, built between 1st January 2022 and 30th June 2024 or, if they were not entered for the previous competitions, earlier. The idea of the competition is to identify the most interesting buildings of this kind and, at the same time, to promote contemporary architecture and create a forum for discussing the latest architectural designs and completed projects. 🏢🏬
