Parking Industry Responds: In response to the increasing number of social media posts from people blatantly and proudly violating parking regulations, including the video from Luke Desmaris which featured in an article in the Daily Mail (16/03/2024), Isaac Occhipinti from the BPA said: “It is becoming far too common to see people treating parking violations as some kind of joke or fair game to ignore. The problem is that the victims of this behaviour are the normal, law-abiding motorists. We all abhor these actions and it’s about time those in power and in the media came out and condemned it as well. Instead, we are constantly seeing misleading press and TV reports about private parking operators and local authorities. We see repeated attacks on the legality and importance of the work the parking management carries out every day, despite the fact that only around 0.3% of parking events result in a parking charge (PCN). Actions such as those from Mr Desmaris do not happen in isolation. They are a symptom from years of misleading and false information and this needs to stop. We all have a responsibility to drive and park in full consideration of others, and those that don’t should expect to be sanctioned accordingly. We urge politicians, motoring groups and the media to start recognising this and not indirectly encourage the worst kind of behaviours we are now witnessing.” https://lnkd.in/ecyUybU3

An important announcement that will affect every person living in the UK. The The International Parking Community (IPC) and British Parking Association have created a new single Code of Practice. We have not waited, we have seized the initiative, taking steps to continue to raise standards across the sector, create certainty and consistency for motorists, the sector, and delivering on the objectives of the Parking (Code of Practice) Act 2019. The joint work between myself and the British Parking Association is a first, and significant step for the Private Parking Sector. Moving us closer to the new world, and aiding the sector to avoid transitional issues. Furthermore, the code protects the most vulnerable in our society, with no decrease to the deterrent for abuse of Blue Badge bays or those who choose to park selfishly by putting their own convenience above the needs or rights of others. The code will be published in June 2024, with full compliance from IPC and BPA members required by 1st October 2024, this is with the exception of changes to existing signage at existing sites and other applicable related clauses. For which full compliance is required by the end of 2026.
