Emerging trends in the restaurant business were discussed in a great panel discussion led by VonLehman CPA & Advisory Firm at Maplewood downtown, featuring industry leaders. Among the trends/insights: * Boost employee retention by handing out prompt performance bonuses; *$15/hour minimum wage proposal probably on the 2024 OH ballot; *Floor hostesses utilized in addition to wait staff; *Catered luncheons seen as a carrot to getting staff back in the office; *Expansion talk in an uncertain economy-"We're not scared but not crazy."

This program was made possible in conjunction with support from the Northern Kentucky Society of Human Resource Management, a new partner of the Covington Business Council.
For the past year, the CBC has been hosting educational roundtables every other month on subjects that interest business owners (marketing, operations, local government incentives and human resources). HR took the center stage September 10 at the new By Gollys Bar and Grill on Greenup when Candra Bryant, MBA, PHR, SHRM-CP of Hannah Resource Group, an HR consulting firm based in Lexington, discussed a variety of issues including choosing the right delivery model for your organization in order to hire, retain and support your employee base.

It's exciting to see additional interest in the Covington Independent School board race at a critical juncture affecting the system's future.
The CBC was excited to work with the Latonia Business Association to promote their Sept 9 monthly luncheon when they hosted four of the eight Covington Independent School Board candidates for a forum on issues such as building renovations as part of the system's master plan and other subjects.

Projects like Sparkhaus, the Woodford at Roebling (Apartments) and the Hayden at Roebling are a few of the central projects authored by Urban Sites in Covington.
It's a pleasure having Kate Greene of Urban Sites back in NKY working on key projects in Covington. Here she is presenting recently at the last Bricker Graydon/Horan Wealth Bridge Series.

It's a bad time to go on a diet in Covington with all the great new restaurants opening around the City. This one will be no exception. Can't wait for its opening.
The latest Covington Business Council Hard Hat tour took us to Madison and Fifth Street where an Italian restaurant (the name will be revealed in the coming days) will hopefully be opening in mid-October with reservations being accepted now for mid-November. The site is the Madison Avenue-side ground floor retail level of the Grand-Odd Fellows Hall building where many of the CBC luncheons take place. The menu will be inspired by recipes that immigrants brought from Italy and revised to American tastes in the 1970s. We appreciate General Manager William "Billy" Grise and Executive Chef Mitchell J Arens showing our members around. Seating capacity indoors and outdoors will be 134. Seventy-five employees will be hired. The meticulous attention to detail in sparing and highlighting the historic brick, set in 1856, is impressive. Can't wait to check it out.

Many experts chart the beginning of Covington's economic growth to a decade ago with seminal projects like Hotel Covington Gateway College's Urban Campus and a slew of new restaurants, bars and businesses. But it was the 'early adopters' to NKY's largest city like C-Forward, setting up shop in at the turn of the century that paved the way for others to see opportunity here.
What an accomplishment! C-Forward turns a quarter century old. Under the steady leadership of Founder and CEO Brent Cooper, the IT service and support provider is an $8M company which has donated $1M back into the community in non profit support, Covington Business Council among its grateful recipients. And now Brent will be ceding ownership in the company to its 35 employees.

The look and feel of Revival Vintage Bottle Shop will continue to adapt and change as time passes to create a new experience moving forward. I highly recommend visiting.
Hearty congratulations to Shannon Smith and Brad Bonds on the long awaited ribbon cutting and Grand Opening of Revival Vintage Bottle Shop at 614 Madison Ave. in Covington. Everyone agrees with how the interior turned out they have made the two-year wait for opening well worth it.

Thanks to Steve Tracy for shepherding this. This program will provide an innovative and necessary approach to help fill out talent pipeline.
With employers struggling to find the necessary talent, diversifying their search practices and expanding talent pools to often overlooked groups is essential to continued economic success, and more importantly, to helping build a stronger, more supportive community here in NKY. Join the Covington Business Council for their September Luncheon. "From Opportunity to Impact: Leveraging Diverse Backgrounds for Workforce Growth". We have an incredible panel: Lamarr Couser, B.A. from DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Theresa Cruz from FIESTA NKY David Zdolshek from Life Learning Center And I've heard the moderator is pretty awesome too 🤷♂️ Sign-up here, don't miss out!: https://lnkd.in/eqpFaQCR #cbc #covingtonbusinesscouncil #workforce #DAV #lifelearningcenter #LLC #fiestanky #veterans #secondchancehiring #hireminorities

What a wonderful supportive team we have at the Covington Business Council. Lauren Senvisky, our new Marketing Events Manager has been a quick study and has bonded immediately with our member company representatives. Jennifer Carskadon Danner MPA, CMP continues to be rock steady as our Operations Manager. I am a blessed person.
Thanks to KY Pink Photography for their great selection of shots at the August CBC monthly luncheon including our newly revitalized staff.

Our combined attendance for our summer luncheon programs was more than 560 people.
They say that summer is a difficult time for attendance at monthly business networking meetings with vacations and all. But thanks to wonderfully planned CBC programs along with outstanding speakers--Cady Short-Thompson and Joseph Meyer to name a few--that was not a problem for our June-August monthly luncheons. Appreciate our more than capable volunteers too staffing the registration tables (Steve Tracy, Michael Stubblefield, Tonya Wolfe XCO XINNIX Certified Originator, Jenn Fennell to name a few). Credit KY Pink Photography for the last two photos.

I've often said that a business advocacy group without members is like a choir without an audience. The Covington Business Council is nothing without its members. Thank you to our more than 530 member companies for your loyalty in being a part of the Council.
The Covington Business Council celebrates its anniversary members in August. First the ladies: Holly Smith and Shirley Audas of Cove Federal Credit Union, a member for five years. As for the gentlemen, Mark Helphinstine of Dean Dorton (formerly VonLehman) and David Hastings of Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky (HONK) for having their companies as CBC members for ten years each. Thanks to KY Pink Photography for the wonderful photos at our most recent monthly luncheon.
