The first human moon landing was not the only big engineering feat of the sixties: the first industrial robot was also produced.   Two Americans, George Devol and Joseph Engelberger, founded the company “Unimation” to manufacture robots. They created a system with a mechanical swivel arm that could manipulate objects with a gripper. It was named the Unimate. US car manufacturers such as General Motors, who were already working on the automation of factories at the time, showed an interest in Unimate and soon started using industrial robots. With the first industrial model, robots began to be used to aid humans in the workplace by completing repetitive manual labor tasks. The creation of the world’s very first industrial robot was just the beginning of the development of the robotics field. At the time of its invention, the Unimate was only being used in the automotive industry, whereas now robotic systems are used in all industries to perform both simple and complex tasks. Collaborative robot, 6-axis cobot, grinding robot Cobots are robots designed to work collaboratively with human workers. Cobots, similar to traditional robots, also have one or multiple arms with multiple degrees of freedom allowing them to perform complex tasks. The main difference is that unlike standard industrial robots that are often kept in cages and operate separately from human workers, cobots are meant to work side by side with humans without any physical boundaries. Also, compared to industrial robots, they are programmed to operate at lower speeds and with less torque strength, making them safer to use in parallel to human workers. 

Trailer unloading robots are becoming increasingly popular due to the structured and repetitive nature of the task, which is hard and unsafe for humans. Among the companies in this space, Anyware Robotics believes it has the right combination of safety, capability, and cost to meet customer demand. Their robot, called Pixmo, features a heavy-payload collaborative arm from Fanuc. Pixmo is cost-efficient and handles boxes of up to 65 lbs with a lift-and-slide technique, putting it at the top end of the trailer unloading robot payload. The company predicts that it will be approximately one-third the cost of other solutions with a payback of about 24 months. The conveyor system in front of the boxes is an add-on that minimizes the amount of lifting that Pixmo has to do, allowing it to achieve a throughput of up to 1,000 boxes per hour. Out of all these Robots, the most difficult one to design and develop is the Humanoid Robot.
