Meet Rose and Bob who have been with our Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) program since its start in 2012. Currently, they are welcoming a youth with therapeutic medical needs into their home after being provided specialized training about the child’s care. Thank you, Rose and Bob, for opening your home and hearts over the years to support 24 youth and families in our community through TFC! Have you ever considered opening your home to a youth in need by becoming a Foster Parent? Learn more about the Therapeutic Foster Care program at Pathways, Inc. today. More than 30 percent of youth and families in our program are – or have been – involved in foster care. Our Friends work hard to make sure that youth in foster care – or youth at-risk of care - and their caregivers have their needs met. Friends average five contacts each month with caregivers and facilitate connection to concrete resources in times of need. 92% of caregivers in our program report that Friends connected them to resources that stabilized their families. #PutChildrenFirst #FosterOurFuture

We often share ways how you can get involved if you aren't a foster parent, but as National Foster Care Awareness Month comes to an end, we want to share this reality: Our country is desperate for more foster parents. You can get down to the nitty-gritty, giving details and specifics for every county in the state and every state in the country, but this truth remains the same: How many children are experiencing foster care? Too many. How many open foster homes are there? Not enough. The stories aren't fiction-- children are sleeping in DCFS offices because state workers can't find an open bed. Kids are being placed into group homes rather than being invited into family settings. Siblings are being separated. It's true that not everyone can be a foster parent... But it's also true that many people can. #fosterthefamily #fosterthefamilyus #thisisfostercare #fostercare #NFCM #fostercareawareness #fosterparent #fosterfamily #everyonecandosomething

🌟 Today is National Foster Care Day! 🌟 Did you know that there are over 400,000 children in foster care in the United States alone? In North Carolina, there are thousands of children in need of loving homes, and in Mecklenburg County, that need hits close to home. Every child deserves stability, love, and support, and you can make a difference. Consider opening your heart and home to a child in need by becoming a foster parent. Together, we can create brighter futures and change lives. In my book, The Compassionate Companiom, I share critical insight from former and current foster and adoptive parents as well as adult children with lived experience, which helps you understand the “real deal” - what’s it really like to be a foster parent and what you can expect. You can get it on Amazon OR you can complete this form and get a free consultation with me to help you consider this huge step in one’s parenting journey, why it’s important AND what to expect. May is Foster Care Awareness Month, and being in foster care can be a traumatic experience for any child. You don’t have to be a foster parent, a CASA, or a volunteer to make a difference. Take a moment to find out how many kids are in care in your area and consider reaching out to a foster family to say thanks. Even just telling a friend or co-worker that you know how rough the situation can be for any child can make a difference. Let’s all be more aware and show our support for these children in need. #FosterCareAwarenessMonth #SupportFosterFamilies
