Extremely useful analysis (spatial and otherwise) of childcare provision in the HV. Insightful and sobering.
Our latest report, Childcare in the Hudson Valley, includes an interactive map that allows readers to see where childcare existed in 2007 and in 2023. This helps us visually understand how the service has become more scarce in our rural and urban areas. Check it out by going here: https://bit.ly/HVChildcare

Great news for working parents, especially moms who are still struggling to return to work after leave, with the challenge of finding available childcare in Canada. Lowering the cost of childcare to make it more affordable and making more spots available is great progress to continue closing the gap worsened by the pandemic for women in the workforce, in any industry. With Maternal Mental Health Awareness Day (May 1st) quickly approaching, this not only helps women return to work (if that is what they want to do) but also helps reduce incremental stress for returning to work and trying to find childcare, and the increased anxiety this can cause. Here’s a great article from last year for more reading on why news like this is so important to the women you work with who are struggling to decide if they can keep their career, while also wanting to have children: “The FAO report also finds that labour market participation for women with young children lags significantly behind that of men with young children -- a gap more than four times wider than among workers without young children.” - https://lnkd.in/gHFfzCyc
We agree that access to childcare is crucial for working families and the healthy development of children. We look forward to seeing the release of a budget that includes measures to increase access and we will continue to work to support access to childcare for all. 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗴! Families want a reliable, affordable childcare system – the next government must prioritise that if it wants to boost the economy - by Sarah Ronan, Director of the Early Education and Childcare Coalition. "In recent years we’ve seen childcare reform climb the political agenda, and quite rightly. Not only does childcare support parents to work today, but it also provides vital early education that supports children to develop into the citizens of tomorrow, something we all have a stake in." https://loom.ly/uBwe7SE #EarlyYears #Childcare #RescueAndReform #EarlyEducation

We want to see early education rescued and reformed. Reform is long-term but the efforts to rescue and stabilise the sector can begin today with the #SpringBudget. Ahead of the forthcoming expansion of childcare support, here's what we've called on the Chancellor to do
