Principal: Emergency Management & Resilience -Red Dragon Consulting Ltd/SAFER

I wrote these words in October 2019 after a senior provincial person asked for my view on the [then] review of emergency management legislation. With current events, the recent Premier's message, and the imminent release of the new EM legislation I decided that it was worth sharing my thoughts from a few years ago in this blog. I've left in words like "should be included" etc. as it was written in 2019 and did not want to change too much of the messaging. Being humble, and reflective, there are a lot of synergies with what we now know. Sharing the summary with some piers recently the reply was "Looks like someone was drinking the Koolaid early on." A more strategic emergency management framework for British Columbia is not just a theoretical concept—it's a tangible step toward safeguarding our communities and resources. Incorporating these elements into any framework can enhance our ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. https://lnkd.in/gisVwnuc #SAFER #RedDragon #emergencymanagement #britishcolumbia #sendai

Paul your crystal ball was in overdrive already in 2019. Hope you get traction on this with the various parties.

My thoughts are; let the politicians milk the proposal for their purposes( re-election, money for their constituency, recognition, etc. And THEN engage Qualified, EXPERIENCED and Respected individuals for sober, thoughtful polite input and contribution. Also, TIME TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! We need brainstorming sessions where individual, seemingly wild proposals, trigger a totally unexpected solution.
