Mindless teaching is unsustainable teaching. When teachers cannot articulate specifically what students are learning--and why they are learning it--teachers inevitably get lost in the "stuff and the things," as one of my principals likes to say. They get lost in the resources and doing exactly what the book says. We don't want teachers who simply teach by the book. We want teachers who teach full of mind.
