This was my response: "I prioritize my emotional well-being by practicing self-care, such as prayer, mindfulness and decompression after stressful interactions. I set healthy emotional boundaries, stay present but detach after my work, and lean on my support network for guidance. When necessary, I seek professional support to prevent burnout and regularly reflect on my experiences for personal growth." Typically, when I ask about self-worth, my patients talk about their abilities, which indicates their confidence in themselves. Self-worth is more innate and basic than self-esteem or self-confidence. And, the best way to figure out our self-worth is to pay attention to how we talk to ourselves at different times of our waking day. Listen in especially when you are feeling bad or guilty about something. How Social Media Addiction is Impacting Our Mental Health Dr. Kanojia, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist specializing in modern mental health and the impact of technology on the brain, shared insights on how our dependency on social media is affecting our emotional well-being. We often use social media as a time filler, turning to platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok whenever we have downtime. Dr. K described boredom as "a way our brain punishes us to get what it wants—dopamine!" Social media provides that dopamine hit, but it also becomes a means of escaping reality and avoiding our emotions. This dependency can lead to difficulties in maintaining proper emotional health and may contribute to long-term mental health issues. Tips for Managing Social Media Influence: 1️⃣ Create Friction: Make it harder to access social media. This can reduce mindless scrolling. 2️⃣ Phone-Free Zones: Keep your phone in a different room whenever possible. 3️⃣ Disable Face Unlock: Manually logging in each time you use your phone can curb instant gratification. 4️⃣ Healthy Routines: Avoid technology for an hour before bed and an hour after waking up. 5️⃣ Set Boundaries: Establish rules like no phones in the bathroom, bed, or at the kitchen table. 6️⃣ Use Computers: Access social media via computer or browser instead of apps. These practices can help us gain more control over our social media usage and promote healthier habits.
