While many of Global Grower Network’s urban garden growers are primarily cultivating food for their own families, 26% also look to their production to earn supplemental income that can greatly contribute to self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship. In some cases, gardens open a pathway that leads to scaled farming and farm business opportunities. Growers, if they choses, can secure a primary family income, and a family lifestyle, as farmers in Georgia, where the average farmer age has risen to 59, the number of farmers and available farmland is steadily decreasing year after year. Transforming Communities: Growing Food, Jobs, and Hope in South Dallas 🌿 Restorative Farms aims to embody selfless community service and spearheads a collaborative coalition of community entities centered around a South Dallas agrisystem. At our Hatcher Station Training Farm, we not only cultivate food but also nurture employment opportunities, fostering agrisystem careers, improving incomes, allowing our future urban farmers the opportunity to self-evolve while giving back to the community. Our farm manager-in-training, Ray Piper, serves as an excellent example. Despite a demanding farm schedule—comprising of tasks like growing, harvesting, and organizing over 300 CSAs—Ray still managed to find time to donate 117 pounds of our excess locally grown organic greens to the Austin Street Center. We will continue to evangelize and help build a professional bioeconomy and S. Dallas agrisystem. This is how we Grow A Better Dallas 🌱🌎🌟 About the Austin Street Center: Austin Street Center, located in Dallas, Texas, provides safe shelter and meets the basic needs of the most vulnerable homeless. #Gratitude #CommunitySupport #UrbanFarming #unhomed #SustainableLiving #professionalurbanfarming #healthysoil #Texasfarmer#organicgardening #GrowABetterDallas #DallasUrbanFarming #HatcherStationTrainingFarm #communityimpact #economicimpact #HealthyEating#CommunityEmpowerment #SouthDallas #NutritionAwareness #SustainableLiving #LocalProduce #HealthyCommunities #foodjustice

The chicken vs the proverbial egg... needing funding to fly in order to provide funding to nest. With the start of the financial year looming, and my first year working in a not-for-profit organisation, the budget process is an interesting time. Funding what we do is an ongoing challenge, with a constant chorus of "conservation doesn't pay" being heard from far and wide. We want to turn that noise on it's head, and whilst running an operationally lean and smart organisation, we also want to become a "must-do" experience for visitors both domestically and internationally. In order to deliver on our big hairy audacious goals #internationallyrecognisednationallycherished we need funding. We are at the start of a huge journey and would ideally like to secure partners that can both 'teach us to fish' and help fund/fundraise some of our work programmes, like education, kiwi translocation. predator monitoring and fence maintenance. So... if you are keen to help us out, or know someone that might be keen, then get in touch. We have registered with MyGivingCircle for those that wish to donate or vote, every action helps! What to do when you're the world's biggest earthworm farm, producing thousands of tonnes of vermicast every year & have an ethos that's all about supporting soil health? Enter our Target 1000 Programme 👋 Our mission: to donate 1000 tonnes of nutrient-rich vermicast to NZ community & planting projects 🌳 Vermicast, also known as worm castings, is a powerful organic fertiliser that improves soil health & boosts plant growth. By contributing to community gardens, urban green spaces & various other planting initiatives, we're committed to fostering sustainable & thriving environments. Why is this important? 🌱 Enhances Soil Health: Vermicast enriches the soil with essential nutrients, improves soil structure & increases organic matter. 🌱 Promotes Sustainable Agriculture: Supports sustainable farming practices & reduces the need for chemical fertilisers. 🌱 Strengthens Communities: Empowers local communities to establish more native plantings, to reduce erosion, improve water quality & store carbon. We believe that together, we can make a significant impact. If you're part of a community project or know of a planting initiative that could benefit from our vermicast donation, we want to hear from you! 👉 Feel free to like, share & comment to spread the word! #MyNoke #Target1000 #Sustainability #CommunitySupport #GreenInitiatives
