What’s the one big thing that #architecture and #design firms wish they had for #office projects but never get?
In my experience? Guaranteed budget to address issues and enhance their clients’ spaces over the first year post-occupancy…if not for the life of the site.
As workplace environments become more dynamic, shared, flexible, and experience-oriented, the likelihood of getting it right from day one is nearly impossible.
The occupier-side #workplace people know this.
The design studio people know this.
But convincing leaders and finance partners to hold aside money for use after the completion of a project can be very difficult.
What if that barrier didn’t exist?
With additional funding, design firms could revolutionize post-project support by implementing flexible #furniture solutions to accommodate changing work styles, introducing smart technology integrations for energy efficiency and user convenience, hosting workshops to educate clients on space optimization, and establishing dedicated post-project support teams to address client needs.
This would help them become trusted partners not only for creating spaces, measuring and improving their outcomes on occupants and their employers.
Now, I’d love to hear from you:
If your design firm had guaranteed funding for post-project improvements — and maybe even the ability to monitor what’s happening there without asking — what changes would you prioritize for your clients’ spaces?
Or, more radically, if your firm could leverage this ability to make post-occupancy changes to “take a bet” on the outcomes of the spaces you build (e.g., get paid a success fee), would you do it?
