September 24: Join Our Food Day Panel During Climate Week NYC! https://lnkd.in/eA-aZstJ World Animal Protection and Center for Biological Diversity have brought a group of civil society organizations from around the world to co-produce the Just Transition White Paper. Co-produced by more than 50 organizations, it outlines a global roadmap for bringing about the end of industrial animal agriculture and shifting to a humane, sustainable, and equitable food system that is primarily plant-based food and protects animals, the climate, workers, and community food security. The event, hosted by Tilt Collective in partnership with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), World Health Organization (WHO), Bezos Earth Fund, and Farmed Animal Funders, Food Day will bring together leaders from the climate, nature, health, and animal advocacy communities to advance plant-rich foods, will serve to launch this Just Transition framework to a US audience and discuss opportunities to adapt the roadmap to empower local and regional food movements so that everyone can thrive in a plant-rich food system. A Mother’s Instinct - Providing the most nutrient dense food for her children i.e. raw milk! Phyllida Warmington from Cothelstone Micro-Dairy is obsessed with animal welfare. As a former vegan, she excluded animal foods from her diet due to very legitimate concerns with the quality of the animal foods available and the conditions they were raised in. Realisation struck - it’s not the animal products that are the issue, it’s the environment which humans have created. When she became a mother the only solution in her mind was to do it herself! Taking away the boundaries between creation and the consumer. So she got a house cow! She has since turned it into a profitable business that she fits around raising 3 small children. She decided to trust her intuition and her children’s taste buds! She started with Jerseys and moved to Red Poll x Jersey for a cow that is more resilient to being kept outdoors most of the year and doesn’t need extra pampering! The cows are moved to fresh grass every day on diverse pasture and herbal leys. The cows are milked once per day for the quality of milk and for the calves, kept with their mothers to lower the stress. The simplicity and cleanliness of her dairy is second to none! In her work as a doula the same care is applied to the mother and baby. The natural process of humans giving birth is not the problem, it’s the unnatural environment which we have created that leads to fear and complications. Raw milk is a controversial subject, as is being a doula, and it takes a lot of bravery to do what she does, quietly and without a fuss. For nearly a decade, we’ve been working hard to help transform the meat industry, but our work isn’t close to being done. For us, transformation in the meat industry looks like ensuring humane treatment for all animals, making farming a viable path for generations to come, and respecting the environment. Simple to say, harder to do.    In the coming weeks (or months), Congress is set to vote on the latest Farm Bill. With that, a small group of Congressmembers are aiming to push legislation, known as the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act, into the Bill that would reverse major animal welfare progress. The EATS Act is a direct challenge to all the work we, and many of our peers, have done and are continuing to do.    Today we sent an open letter to Congress urging a closer look at what the EATS Act, and any of its iterations, would truly mean for the upcoming Farm Bill.
