Let's play a game. By now, we've all heard of venture capitalism: investing in high-potential companies with an expectation of financial returns on investment (ROI). But what would our investments look like if environmental returns came first, profit second? What if the 'triple bottom line' weren't just greenwashing? What if we could shift our values as a society to reflect the importance of natural systems on our literal livelihoods? This is some of the work we're doing at Howell Conservation Fund - investing in promising companies and nonprofits to accelerate their environmental impact, placing the highest priority on their ecological returns. Grant opportunity: Landcare Grants Open now; Closes 30/04/24; up to $20,000; Vic These grants support landcare and environmental volunteer groups and networks with on-ground works, education and capacity building projects that protect and restore our land and natural environment. There are two streams: -Project Grants of up to $20,000 for on-ground works, capability building activities, community education and engagement that protects or improves our natural environment such as native vegetation, native fauna, waterways, wetlands, and soils. -Support Grants of up to $500 to assist with costs such as insurance, incorporation and operational needs, or meetings and events or newsletters, websites and other communication. Eligibility: Grants are open to all Victorian Landcare and environmental volunteer groups and networks that are community-based and have a focus on on-ground land and natural environment improvement work. This includes Landcare groups and networks, Friends groups, Conservation Management Networks, Committees of Management, Coastcare groups and Aboriginal groups and organisations working on Country. #pruesgold #grants #grantwriting

Letters of Intent are now being accepted for 2024 Biodiversity Conservation Grant With major support from Toyota Motor North America, the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) is excited to announce $200,000 in grant funding to support shovel-ready pollinator habitat enhancement projects on America’s Public Lands. Habitat enhancement projects should directly support the creation, restoration, remediation, improvement, and/or protection of habitats for important pollinator species such as butterflies, bees, bats, and more. The project should directly impact pollinators on at least 200 acres of public land. Additionally, projects should incorporate community outreach and engagement activities designed to educate and empower the public to help enhance pollinator habitats. Eligibility Requirements: * Open to non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations, state or federal government agencies, federally recognized tribes and local governments, and educational institutions. * Projects must be on public lands defined as any local, state, or federal government- or nonprofit-owned land that is accessible to the public for recreational use on a regular basis. This grant period will run from 7/1/2024 to 6/30/2025. The grant competition will be a two-part process. Those interested in applying must first submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) as an online application. NEEF will then select and invite a small number of finalists to submit a full application for review. From that pool, NEEF will then choose its grantees. The deadline for LOI submission is March 1, 2024. https://lnkd.in/ekAtQUUG

In environmental justice work, fair treatment and meaningful involvement of rural communities and Native nations requires agencies and funders to build their own capacity to engage with these communities effectively. Recognizing this, some funders are shifting gears to learn communities’ language, processes, and practices, enabling more equitable partnerships and impactful projects that meet community needs. Scientific research is instrumental in addressing economic, environmental, social, and cultural sustainability. Data serves as the foundation for evidence-based decision-making, enabling countries to implement effective mitigation and adaptation actions. With the growing global interest in peatlands and their correlation with climate change, scientific research teams have increasingly focused on mapping and identifying potential peatland sites. In this context, the Government of Belize, through the Belize Forest Department, has partnered with several organizations, including the Pew Charitable Trusts, Michael Succow Foundation/GMC, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, and the University of Belize, to undertake a pilot project aimed at identifying peatlands across Belize. The primary objectives of this project include validating a peatland map, conducting preliminary assessments of carbon stock, expanding field methods, and building national capacity. This pilot project represents a critical step in gathering, compiling, and analyzing data that may be integrated into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and other key reports.
