As a trainee lawyer and an avid weightlifter, I’ve learned that both law and fitness require discipline, patience, and persistence. Whether it's drafting legal documents or pushing for that last rep in the gym, each challenge helps me grow stronger—mentally and physically. The journey in law is just beginning, and just like in fitness, progress comes one step at a time. Excited to keep pushing boundaries and seeing where this path takes me. #StrengthInDiscipline #TraineeLawyer #GrowthMindset #FitnessAndLaw #BuildingFoundations

Legal Specialist @ Aequitas Legal | Foreign Qualified Solicitor | Business owner @ DhwaniAstro | LL.M @ University of Manchester
Jumping into the UK legal sector as a foreign-qualified lawyer has been quite the adventure! It’s like solving a legal Rubik’s Cube, but I’m getting there, twist by twist! Adjusting to the workplace culture and client expectations? Well, imagine trying to learn the rules of cricket overnight! Every professional environment has its quirks, and I’m learning them one delightful curveball at a time. Building a network from scratch in a new country is like planting a garden – it takes time, effort, and a lot of watering (read: networking events and coffee chats). Legal jargon? It’s like learning a new dialect of lawyer-ese. But hey, I’m adding new words to my vocabulary every day, and it’s actually kind of fun! Now, here’s the best part: I’ve had the luck to work with some of the most supportive and inclusive colleagues ever. They’ve been my tour guides, cheerleaders, and sometimes even my translators through this whole process. Seriously, couldn’t have asked for a better crew! To all my fellow foreign-qualified lawyers: keep your chin up and your sense of humor intact! Embrace the learning curve, hunt down those mentors, and believe in your superpowers. Together, we’re going to ace it! If you can relate, share your experiences in the comments below – let’s support and inspire each other! #LegalSector #ForeignQualifiedLawyer #UKLaw #ProfessionalChallenges #Inclusivity #CareerJourney #DiversityInLaw #Motivation #ProfessionalGrowth

Last month, I was appointed as a Legal Cheek campus ambassador to the University of Lincoln for 2024-25 and today I met with Legal Cheek representatives as well as other newly appointed ambassadors. For my first promotional post, I would like to raise attention to a number of upcoming Legal Cheek fairs: Firstly, I would like to mention the upcoming Legal Cheek Virtual Law Fair, which takes place on Tuesday 3rd September 2024. This is a virtual meeting which allows anyone interested in a legal career to network with prominent law firms, including Clifford Chance, Womble Bond Dickinson and Freshfields. I would advise anyone looking for an unmissable networking opportunity to attend. In addition to this virtual networking event, other in person networking sessions are being held across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland in September and October 2024 for people seeking training contracts. Scottish Law Fair-This will be held in Edinburgh between 2pm and 4pm on Monday 21st October 2024. Republic of Ireland Law Fair-This will be held in Dublin between 2-4pm on Tuesday 17th September 2024. Northern Ireland Law Fair-This will be held in Belfast between 2-4pm on Wednesday 18th September 2024. For anyone interested in becoming a barrister, Legal Cheek are also running a Virtual Pupillage Fair. This event will be run across two days, Thursday 10th October and Thursday 12th December and applications for the first date are now open. This event will allow anyone interested in becoming a barrister to ask questions and learn more about the profession. I would also like to mention a number of events organised by Legal Cheek which will also be taking place over the next few months. Energy Transition and the Law- This is a talk being organised by Magic Circle firm Clifford Chance which discusses the move towards more environmentally friendly energy resources. This discussion will be taking place both in person and virtually on Tuesday 5th September between 4pm and 6:30pm and applications for attendance are now open. Why STEM Students Make Great Lawyers-This is another virtual talk being given on Tuesday 5th November 2024 from 3pm-5pm by a number of firms including A&O Shearman, Bird and Bird and Clifford Chance and will explore how people from STEM academic backgrounds can enter the legal profession. Finally, in January 2025, a virtual event series centred around solicitor apprenticeships for school leavers is being planned, which offers an alternative route to legal qualification. Unfortunately, applications for registration are not yet accepted although you can pre-register. I help insurance brokers, risk managers, subcontractors, and lawyers simplify & streamline contract review and reduce contractual risk. #InsuranceRequirementsSimplified!
Great post Dan Kayne! Touching on your background and experience builds credibility. I can relate. 😊 I am obliged to introduce myself by saying I am not a lawyer (although at times I might talk like one), as I review contracts from an insurance and risk-related perspective, so I do not give legal advice⚖. (That's my obligatory disclaimer and it helps keep my E&O insurer happy.) 🙂 I then go on to say that I was the former National Practice Leader for Marsh and then Aon prior to my current role of Director of Contract Risk Management at Peoples First Insurance. I have over 2 decades of experience in insurance and contract review consulting for clients. I am also Co-founder of Contract Risk Academy 🏫 (https://lnkd.in/ggqzVJyg), where I do something no one else is doing. I provide insurance, risk management, and legal professionals with custom contract review tools 🛠, best-in-class insurance requirement templates 📃, training 🎤, and guidance 🤓 to help simplify and streamline their review of insurance and risk-related provisions in contracts, while reducing 📉 contractual risk. I can also do the work 👩💼 for them to free up their time. ⏲ In addition, I work directly with clients, such as contractors 👷♂️ 👷♀️ and subcontractors, who need help in this area. #contract #contractreview #insurance #riskmanagement #contractriskmanagement #legal #construction #contractors #subcontractors
Although it has nearly been two years since I was a General Counsel, I still generally introduce myself as a 'former General Counsel'. I emphasise that more than the fact that I am leading a movement for positive change across the legal sector and having much more impact than I ever did as a lawyer. How long will I feel the need to do this? It's like the discussion each January over when it is reasonable to no longer greet people with 'happy new year'. As I spend my time working in the legal sector, it's clearly a comfort blanket of some sort - be it for myself or the people I am dealing with. Then I thought about it some more. I often meet people who, like me, have decided to pursue a different path and, also like me, they emphasise their ex lawyer role as much as their current role. "I am a former associate at top 20 city law firm" "I was in the city at a top law firm for years" "I am actually a non-practicing solicitor" And then, finally as we swing round the virtual room we get to the person who starts by introducing themselves as 'I am not a lawyer but....' Is it that being a lawyer is so special and takes years to achieve? Is it a vulnerability when surrounded by lawyers to make sure we emphasise that we were once one? I am not sure, but to increase the chances of you commenting or liking this post, please be aware that I was a General Counsel for many years having spent over 20 plus years in the industry, the first 7 of which at a major US Law firm. I also attained my 100 metre swimming badge when I was 6 years old. thanks. #oshaped #bemoreO #peoplefirst

How your other talents can transfer to your skills. I have been dancing since I was 2 and 1/2 years old. A few things I learned from dancing: 1. How to work as a team 2. Working under pressure 3. Problem solving There is always a solution to every problem. Working as a team and inviting different perspectives can make the success out of anything. Plan for the worst. Hope for the best. #paralegals #law #legal #lawfirms
