The NSRI #strategicdeterrence interns focused on research for joint electromagnetic spectrum operations (JEMSO) recently presented to Lockheed Martin leaders. Gael Perez, an electrical engineering major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, said he and his peers considered the experience a "pivotal moment" in their professional development. Their research aims to create technology that will significantly reduce or eliminate unwanted radio frequency (RF) signals within a defined spectrum. Considering how crowded the RF environment is becoming with wireless communications, doing this will better improve both the clarity and reliability of priority DOD signals. The interns' presentation was a culmination of weeks of preparation, and the feedback from Lockheed Martin was constructive and encouraging, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. It emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and storytelling in presentations and motivated the interns to enhance their skills further, incorporating feedback into practice sessions, focusing on audience engagement, and seeking guidance to ensure impactful presentations. "Beyond developing our professional skills, this experience underscored the value of collaboration and teamwork," Gael said. "By pooling our diverse expertise and perspectives, we were able to craft a presentation and a well-detailed conference paper that was greater than the sum of its parts. "Working at NSRI has been an incredible journey, particularly in presenting complex briefings to industry leaders with the guidance of our coordinator, Chris Luther. His expertise has been instrumental in refining our presentations to meet high standards." --- More details about this summer's NSRI interns ➡ https://lnkd.in/g88vwTfe. 📸 NSRI interns with Maj. 🚤 Exciting times ahead at the Artificial Intelligence Maritime Maneuver Indiana Collegiate Challenge this Friday and Saturday at Pokagon State Park! 🚤 This groundbreaking event, a collaboration between the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, the Office of Naval Research, and Trine University - a partnership facilitated by Office of Congressman Jim Banks - showcases the remarkable talent of students from six Indiana universities: Indiana University Bloomington, Purdue University Fort Wayne, Purdue University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and University of Notre Dame. These bright minds are not just competing; they're innovating for our nation's future in maritime defense. The challenge involves transforming student-built, low-profile marine vessels into fully autonomous vehicles capable of navigating complex obstacle courses. This hands-on experience equips our students with critical technical skills, applicable in both commercial and defense sectors. 🔗 Brooke Pyne's op-ed on the competition discusses why initiatives like this are crucial for maintaining national security, propelling technological advancements, and workforce development. Our team at the Applied Research Institute is proud to support and sponsor such transformative opportunities, nurturing the next generation of defense leaders and innovators. 🏆 Join us in cheering for these students and exploring potential career opportunities at the defense industry job fair. #Innovation #DefenseIndustry #AutonomousTechnology #IndianaUniversities #FutureLeaders #NationalSecurity https://lnkd.in/eBCArv8w

Specialist in dual credit program development and accreditation - high school-college dual/concurrent enrollment, early college, summer programs, research, and accreditation
Very happy to announce the launch of an education and career product I have helped develop (and continue to support) called Bastion STEM. Bastion STEM has a mission of connecting high school students with applied STEM curriculum in the career field, and technical skill area, of aviation. This is the perfect marriage of STEM curriculum that is NGSS compliant and a low-cost flight simulator with AI flight instructor. Literally, students will be learning to fly and also learn the corresponding physics and math at every stage of development. They will also learn about the biology and chemistry that occurs in the pilot’s body as the G-forces push down (among other scenarios). Seeing the STEM connections, building agency, and learning a skill that leads to high-demand jobs (commercial and/or military pilots, civilian and/or military drone operators, and aerospace engineers), creates opportunities for students – especially those who did not previously see opportunities for themselves. Bastion STEM offers options for individual students, afterschool clubs, and full-year class curriculum led by a high school instructor. The price is kept very low, because the mission is about cultivating opportunities for students. This is just the beginning, though, as we will soon be creating a career speaker series so students can meet diverse aviators, who will share their pathway in the profession. There may be dual credit options in the future as well. Take a look and imagine the opportunities that are available. https://lnkd.in/dzQGeP4a #highschoolaccess #aviation #stemeducation

Good afternoon LinkedIn, I'm excited to announce the starting of a new student club at Purdue University for National Defense Technology; my aim is to create an organization within Purdue where students passionate about topics pertaining to national defense can come together and discuss the current events, emerging technologies, and developments regarding the ever-changing modern battlespace. Purdue is home to many clubs which already set students up for successful careers in a vast range of industries; the prime example being Purdue Space Program: A SEDS Chapter which naturally feeds students into both internships and entry positions at companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, or other leading aerospace companies. Having now worked two summers with the Air Force Materiel Command, and only becoming further interested in a career in defense, I find the lack of student-driven involvement with the Department of Defense to be surprising. It is my belief that fostering such engagement can significantly benefit our national defense and security workforce by nurturing the interests and skills of students in this field early on. I have put together a short interest form for any Purdue student or faculty who may be interested in getting involved, things are very much so still in the works, so your ideas and involvement are very welcome. Please reach out to me if you have questions, or are interested to learn more. Thanks very much! 😉 https://lnkd.in/gtNRZ_sU #purdue #purdueuniversity #defense #dod #airforce #marines #army #navy #engineering #aerospace

Marketing & Growth Strategist | Aviation, Airshows, Sustainability & STEM | Trustee for Flying Scholarships for Disabled People | Speaker & Mentor
I waited on the fence line at RAF Fairford last night to watch the B-52s land. Along with a couple of hundred other people, and it occurred to me. There seems to be such an interest in aviation in this country. But why do we still have a huge skills shortage? And lack of people joining the aviation and aerospace industries in STEM roles? Despite all the efforts being put in by large companies and organisations like STEM Learning UK and STEMAZING. The number of people attending #airshows, and they are selling out! And individuals, STEM Ambassadors like myself. Trying to do their best to inspire the next generation. This morning I'm heading off to a local primary school. To give an aviation STEM workshop. I'm explaining aerodynamics to 5-6 years olds. 70 of them! What can possibly go wrong? It might not make a huge amount of difference but like the star fish story, it may make a difference to that one child. Wish me luck, and enjoy the video! #STEM #AviationMarketing #VolunteersWeek #NextGeneration
