This month is Dry July, where people are encouraged to go alcohol-free in July and raise funds for people affected by cancer. One of the new features of the Australian Cancer Atlas 2.0, launched last month, is how the prevalence of risk factors associated with cancer, such as risky alcohol consumption, varies by where people live. The Atlas 2.0 (https://lnkd.in/gvpQiVh5) shows there are clearly areas where there is higher than average risky alcohol consumption (shown in red) and those areas that have lower than average consumption (shown in blue). Research has shown that alcohol use contributes to around 5% of the total cancer burden, and also causes other health problems. So go Dry in July, not only to raise funds for cancer, but to improve your own health.
