Nothing big gets solved by one person. To take on cancer, it takes all of us. It takes a society. 💛
About us
What does it take to take on cancer? It takes all of us. We all know the saying ‘It takes a village.’ But to take on cancer, it takes more than a village. We believe it takes a society. It takes a community – of patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, researchers, advocates, donors, supporters and volunteers – rallying together around a shared cause. Profound impact is possible when we combine our actions with the actions of others. Our goal at the Canadian Cancer Society is to inspire people of all ages, from all backgrounds and all parts of the country to come together to take on cancer’s biggest issues. Nothing big gets solved by one person. To take on cancer, it takes all of us. It takes a society. 💛

Did you know that costs for fertility services in Canada can range up to $30,000 or more? That's why we're advocating for better fertility support for children, youth and young adults facing cancer. We'll be sharing more on this important issue, so stay tuned!
It was such a privilege to speak at this year’s Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology conference on the Canadian Cancer Society’s work to advocate for better fertility support for young Canadians facing cancer. Many young people dealing with cancer face bills in the tens of thousands of dollars to support their future fertility - all the the face of a life altering and costly diagnosis. CCS will deliver hundreds of Get Better cards from oncology nurses across Canada to Heath Ministers from coast to coast, asking for improved oncofertility support for this population 🙌

Everyone's cancer experience is unique. For Robby Spring, as a high-risk individual, advocating for herself was a big lesson she learned throughout her cancer diagnosis. In this video, Robby passes on 3 lessons she learned in hopes that it can help others as they face a cancer diagnosis. 💛 #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

The Canadian Cancer Society’s #GalaDesGrandsChefs was a tremendous success again this year! Thanks to the generosity of the people and organizations taking part, we raised a resounding $500,331! These funds will finance Maison Jacques-Cantin in Montreal, a second home for people affected by cancer. Many thanks to Pierre Miron of iA Financial Group and Daniella Toledano of Deloitte for co-chairing this unique philanthropic and gastronomic event! Many thanks also to our ambassadors Julie Lecomte from Desjardins, Charles Brenn from Énergir, Denis Daly from Loto-Québec, Anne Marchiori from Alithya, Alain Bergeron from iA Financial Group, Annie Lavoie from MicroLogic and Sylvain Berger from Deloitte. It takes a society to change the future of cancer. We are so grateful to everyone who made the Gala such a success! We look forward to seeing you again next autumn! https://lnkd.in/g8AFtd5h

Canadian Cancer Society reposted this
Last week, I had the privilege of representing the Canadian Cancer Society on my first live TV segment of my career by appearing on Global News Toronto Your Morning show with Candace Daniel to chat about the exciting changes to the Ontario Breast Cancer Screening Program during #BCAM. It was exciting and nerve-racking, not to mention something I had not imagined myself doing in my career, but it is a real privilege to speak on behalf of the organization I work for and underline the work we do, as well as to represent the many Ontarians living with or beyond cancer. The work is incremental, but rewarding! http://bit.ly/40gZkvU Starting October 8th this year, any Ontarian aged 40+ can now self-refer for a mammogram. This is an incredibly important step for empowering women to access this potentially life-saving screening tool. When 13% of all #breastcancer cases are found in the 40-49 age group, it is key all Canadians have equitable and timely access to breast screening. I encourage my 40+ network to go onto https://lnkd.in/gNUxU-zA and book yourself a #mammogram to get yourself checked. This is also critical because all provinces including ON have a family doctor shortage, which means many don't have access to get a referral for screening. So while this change opens up a new avenue for folks to access screening with these ongoing health human resource challenges, we need to do more to expand access. This includes making sure investments are also made in the resources to make the screening possible, both human and financial. Alongside this, we also need to better reach people in communities who are already in the screening population and meet the criteria, but who are under-screened - in particular, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, racialized, rural/remote, 2SLGBTQI+ communities, just to name a few. Black women are disproportionately impacted by breast cancer - more often they are diagnosed before the age of 50 AND with later stage disease than other women. This profound change will help Black women more readily access the screening they need. We must ask our governments to work with those communities to co-design strategies to improve screening for those that experience disparities in breast cancer screening and outcomes (likely strongly correlated to the many intertwining social and commercial determinants of health). I will continue to advocate for more funding for research, enhancing data collection (including race-based data, see more about that in our pan-Canadian Cancer Data Strategy with the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer: https://lnkd.in/gysh92kQ), ensuring national screening guidelines match the latest evidence for both average, elevated and high risk and more awareness about screening programs.
