All events will be no longer than an hour and feature content on housing in the community. For the first event, join us for a Q&A - attendees will have an opportunity to submit a question prior to the event and hear from our Leadership on the state of housing in the greater Holland community and what work is being done to address it. Want to know more about how Habitat works and responds to emergencies that threaten housing in the Pacific? Our Group CEO, Alan Thorp, has spoken to the Emergency Alliance , answering all of the big questions. 🏠 "Preparedness is crucial for housing, as it's far more challenging to rebuild following a disaster, given it is so demanding on resources, especially capital, and time needed to scale up. So, Habitat tends not to be a first responder but comes in after to support recovery."
We sat down with Habitat for Humanity New Zealand's Group CEO, Alan Thorp to learn more about his journey and how his organisation brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. You know what to do... click that link https://lnkd.in/gKG9K6Ct

Mt. Elbert in Sept 2023. Some ask why we summit Mt. Elbert when it takes 3 days and 50+ volunteers to serve 1 individual. It often comes into question if it is worth it when we could serve so many more in that timeframe with that team. Mt. Elbert is more than a single experience. It is symbolic of everything we are building together. It is emblematic of the glass ceiling we will continue to shatter as a community. We are the change, and if we can do this on Mt. Elbert year and year, and it becomes normal instead of "impossible", then every trail in every community can become adaptable through community strength. We can create something more inclusive and equitable in the mountains. For the record, we did create 110 other "impossible" trail experiences in 2023 :)

I want to share the news of another NSF awarded to us: Place-Based, Human-Centered Networks to Enhance Community Resilience and Equity. Collaborating with my Co-PI Katherine Idziorek, PhD, AICP and Stephen Wong, Ph.D. https://lnkd.in/gzDhZ2NV In this project, we will investigate the opportunities and challenges of implementing micro-mobility and resilience hubs in both a metropolitan coastal city (Seattle) and an inland suburban community (Stillwater, Oklahoma). We anticipate that the outcomes will endorse the use of micro-mobility to enhance social network connectivity, boost community cohesion and capacity, and strengthen both community and national resilience.

Recently, my team and I supported the Clean Air Together Limerick campaign, a project led by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Environment and Climate Action Team in Limerick City and County Council. Clean air plays a vital role in both environment and public health, contributing to the well-being of our communities and creating healthier spaces. Healthy Ireland and Sláintecare recognise how environmental conditions directly affect our health. By improving air quality, we strengthen the social determinants of health—where people live, learn, work, and play—creating real benefits in everyday lives. With 27 key deliverables in the Healthy Ireland strategy, this campaign exemplifies how we can drive lasting change. Clean Air Together empowers people as citizen scientists, contributing valuable data to shape policy and improve health outcomes. This collaboration highlights the strong connection between environmental actions and public health. Together, we’re building healthier, more resilient communities.
