Helping Business Owners, Engineers, and Young Professionals with equity compensation take control of retirement | Through the windshield vs. the rearview | Financial Planner | Business Owner | You deserve more
ESOPs = Employer Stock Ownership Plans. If you are currently participating in one or have the option to, this is worth a read. Too often I hear about people buying in to their company ESOP and they have little to no understanding of how it works and they usually say, "Well a bunch of my colleagues did, so it's fine." An ESOP can be an awesome tool that benefits both the employee and employer, but it isn't for everyone. Do some due diligence, especially if your employer forces you to buy into their ESOP to get promoted. #ESOP

In this very competitive corporate world, one of the best benefits that a valuable employee could receive is an ESOP, or Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Have you heard about ESOPs? Corporate Finance Institute defines it as "An Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) refers to an employee benefit plan that gives the employees an ownership stake in the company. The employer allocates a certain percentage of the company’s stock shares to each eligible employee at no upfront cost. The distribution of shares may be based on the employee’s pay scale, terms of service, or some other basis of allocation." My wife and I were discussing this months ago, as her employer offers this program to her. I mentioned that I was expecting such a program from the companies I've worked with, but none of them did and did not offer ESOPs to any of their management. I told her that her company is "something to keep for the long term." ESOPs are one of the best benefits that a company could offer to its valuable staff, and this practice can be applied here as well in Papua New Guinea. How an ESOP Works ⁉️🤔🤔 🙋🙋 There are several ways through which employees can become the owners of their company, but the ESOP is the main source of employee ownership in the U.S. This is how it works!!🧑💻👩💻👨💻👩💻 In the U.S., the main form of ongoing employee ownership is the employee stock ownership plan (ESOP). An ESOP is a type of employee benefit plan that acquires company stock and holds it in accounts for employees. Many people have 🤷♂️🤷♂️ misconceptions🤷♂️🤷♂️ about ESOPs, thinking, for example, that employees buy the stock or that an ESOP works like an equity compensation plan. The illustration below shows how an ESOP works in a typical case, where it is used to buy out the owner. There also are many ESOPs in public companies, where they often are a component of a 401(k) plan and a minor component of overall ownership, but the explanation here shows an ESOP in its most characteristic form. #growth #esops #futurism #company
