“Do you want to Coast or Scale?”
Seven years as a Trustee for Greenleaf Trust, incubating the project Spark2Life, an organisation with a vision and mission to change the lives of young people caught up in the criminal justice system, led by founder and CEO Dez Brown.
Now its own legal entity, it was a pleasure to be part of Spark2Life's first Awayday last Saturday, even the sun came out. 🌞
Questions we asked ourselves.
Where are we now?
Where do we want to go?
How are we going to get there?
It was a pleasure to have Lord Michael Hastings, our patron, spend the day with us. He shared his wealth of experience and he challenged our thinking. He asked us if we wanted to coast along or scale the business🤔
This is often the question I pose to CEO’s and directors when I am coaching or leading strategic away days for my clients. How different it feels to be on the receiving end. 🙂 It's a tough question, but a necessary one, for any organisation.
We need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable and asking those challenging questions.
If yes, why?
If not, why?
If yes how? what do we need to do differently to move to the next level?
If not why, is coasting what you want, or is it fear of the next level?
I always advise my clients to take some time to reflect on the previous year and plan for the future. It's beneficial to involve as many team members as possible in the process, as diverse perspectives can help the development of your organisation.
A great day was spent with fellow board members, Christine Giscomb, Emmanuel Goro, and Fitzroy Andrew, Spark2Life Team, CEO Dez Brown, Jamela Ricketts, Richard Hawkins, and Despina Bardosi.
