3-10% of patients with #asthma account for 50% of the healthcare costs related to asthma due to unmet needs in #diagnostics, referrals to lung specialists, and an over-reliance on oral steroids, which lead to a poor quality of life. This is largely due to a lack of standardized policies and procedures in the care pathway for patients with asthma, and this is especially true in The #Gambia. Permian Health Lung Institute is honored to endorse Global Allergy & Airways Patient Platform's call to action on severe asthma. More information here. https://lnkd.in/gm5qRa_3

‘Do you know about Single Maintenance And Reliever Therapy [SMART approach] for asthma? It’s an innovative inhaler treatment that combines inflammation-fighting corticosteroids with a long-acting drug that opens up airways. But a recent study revealed that SMART has – so far – been under-prescribed to patients, even though it’s part of NAEPP and GINA asthma guidelines: https://lnkd.in/gGCb3Vxb SMART is for people with moderate to severe asthma, including children ages 5 and older, and it has a dual purpose as both a controller and quick-relief treatment. On Thursday, July 25, the Allergy & Asthma Network invites you to join us for our latest webinar, “SMART and Other Patient-Centered Approaches Towards Asthma Management” with board-certified allergist Angela Hogan, MD.’ https://lnkd.in/gPtDtCSk #SMARTTherapy #Asthma #AsthmaManagement #Webinar #SMART

Dear Advocates, We urgently need advocates to educate all 50 states about enabling asthma patients to access their records from PCPs beyond the typical 7 to 10 years. It's crucial for PCPs to maintain records for asthma patients, given the staggering 21 million affected individuals. By ensuring access to these records beyond the typical 7-10 year timeframe, we can emphasize the importance of minimizing repeat testing experiences and addressing building issues. This ensures that asthma and allergy specialists aren't profiting from human health triggers and sick building syndrome. This proactive approach will ultimately save taxpayers significant funds and patients time, distance, and money over time. Sincerely, Thomas E. Martin III Lifelong Asthma & Allergies

Founder and CEO of DailyBreath, LLC, a cloud based SAAS company delivering personalized environmental insights for better health outcomes.
Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America's Asthma Capitals Report uses incidence of asthma prevalence, ED visits from asthma, and crude death rate due to asthma to determine its list. Acute respiratory distress is potentially preventable and it's time we focus on upstream interventions to reduce the potential health impact of environmental triggers. #asthma
