Materials from China’s #Xinjiang region, including cotton and polysilicon, permeate global #supplychains. All products made with such materials are presumptively banned from the United States under the #Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Ned Levin, an attorney who has investigated forced labor in China and represents Uyghur asylum seekers in the US, will explain how the #UFLPA came about, how it works, the steps the US government has taken to enforce this massive and unprecedented new mandate, and reactions from companies and trade groups. https://lnkd.in/eQ_PHbGc

Since the world banned the international trade of ivory in 1989, most nations have done their part to protect #elephants by closing their domestic #ivory markets. When will Japan join the fight? Though Japan isn't home to any wild elephants, it is home to the last major legal ivory market. We work with partners like 認定NPO法人トラ・ゾウ保護基金 (JTEF : Japan Tiger and Elephant Fund) to urge Japanese leaders to take action against domestic ivory trade, which continues to fuel the global elephant poaching crisis. Iran's proxy manages for 104 days to mess around RED sea, creating disruption all around global trade (but mainly ASIA - EU and reverse). At the same time Hormuz strait (appx 20% of global oil trade moving there) which is much smaller has never been blocked by Iran (although threatened repeatedly). Does this mean: a. US can defend easily Hormuz strait, and logically RED sea, but does not want to? Let China suffer a bit.... b. Iran does not want to mess with the strait since it is also important for them? c. Iran knows that US can keep the strait free and does not want to make it obvious, but keeps messing with China - Europe and Israel, just enough so that US does not get really upset? 🤔 #globaltrade #redsea #hormuzstrait

Chief Executive Officer @ IMR Strategy. We show you the problems and opportunities your company doesn't see coming. Servant Leadership, Communication, and Strategy brought together to give you the first mover advantage.
Today (with compliments to Peter Zeihan) we see the Houthi have devolved from attacking ships for political reasons to attacking ships as a protection racket. Some have argued this shows a positive change or at least an effective adaptation by the market to the maritime threat. I would argue the exact opposite. This appears to be establishing a precedent that disrupting maritime trade is profitable. Now spin that forward to the straight of Malacca and a target on energy shipments. How much does China pay? We’re in a moment of disruption. Buckle up.

Over the past few years, the word “despite” has become firmly entrenched in the life of every Ukrainian – despite the war, despite the bereavements, despite constant air alerts, despite sleepless nights, the electricity and the internet shortage, despite and in spite of Ukraine lives, fights, works and believes in its future. The Forum ‘Development despite the war: Grain and Processing - 2024’, which again gathered more than 250 representatives of grain processors, producers of flour, cereals, pasta, bakery products, equipment and technology suppliers is another confirmation of this. For several days, representatives of the industry talked not about survival, but about the prospects of development, both in Ukraine and abroad. I would like to thank the organizers - "UNION MILLERS OF UKRAINE" for the invitation and the opportunity to share #CPS consumer insights. Despite the difficult financial situation Ukrainian consumer is still not ready to compromise on quality and increasingly chooses Ukrainian-made products. Have a question? Our #CPS team is ready to continue the discussion 🚀 🚀 🚀 #CPS #Ukraine #ConsumerInsights #ConsumerBevaviour

The Red Sea crisis has shaken the European #petrochemicals industry and will ripple through the #chemicals markets in 2024. Products like PTA and #polypropylene, #ethylene glycols and #hdpe have been highly impacted by reduced imports from Asia. In the long term, there is a shift in buyer behaviour caused by geopolitical uncertainties. #icis

When sourcing from China, it's important to recognize that it's not only about politics or trade wars. With nearly half of China's major cities facing "moderate to severe" land collapse, millions are at risk of flooding as sea levels rise. Unfortunately, this concern goes beyond China's borders. One example is Indonesia with large parts of Jakarta now below sea level. An important report by Reuters: #SupplyChain #GlobalSupplyChain #Disruptions https://lnkd.in/eA4_wxmK
