You have some franchisees that you're thinking about researching, the question is “How do you research these franchisees, so you can make a safe and wise decision?” One of the main things that we talk to our clients about is what we call validation. Validation is going to be: - Talking to the franchisor - Talking to the franchisees - What we call a confirmation day When you talk to the franchisor, you're going to talk to them a couple of times and get to know them. I kind of kid that this is kind of like a coffee date, if you will. That's your first call and you're trying to figure out if you want to go on a dinner date with that franchisor. If you want to go on that dinner date, you want to know quite a bit about them. One of the things that you're going to get from the franchisor is what's called an FDD or Franchise Disclosure Document. Part of your due diligence process, as you're evaluating franchises, is to talk to other franchisees and get an understanding of a day in the life of the owner. What do you do when you wake up every day? Are you out networking in the community? Are you going to the office every day? The franchisor is going to tell you what it's supposed to be like, but when you talk to these franchisees, you hear what it's actually like and then you can decide if it aligns with what the franchisor is telling you. That's part of how you assess if this is something that you want to do every day. I think it's really important when you're having those franchisee calls to figure out if those are the people that you feel you can learn from and that are willing to support you and help you out.
