Bringing conversations about grief into the workplace. Helping businesses increase productivity and retention and build a great place to work. | Workshops for managers and teams | Facilitator, Writer and Keynote speaker
Last week, a client confirmed my first webinar for National Grief Awareness Week in December. Have you thought about what your company will do yet? It takes place every year in early December and is a chance for us all to talk about grief and what it means for us and those around us. Here are a couple of ideas 🌻 A panel discussion where people share their own experiences of grief and what that has meant to them 🌳 A memorial tree or wall, where people can leave photographs or names of loved ones who have died. 🦋 Online or in-person session on what grief feels like and advice on how colleagues and managers can be more supportive. 👉 Remind people of support resources available to them 📖 Additional resources on your intranet 🗝️ A discussion of what an inclusive bereavement policy would look like. If you would like to have a chat with me about what your company can be doing, then book an appointment above or follow the link in the comments. I only have a limited number of slots available during Grief Awareness Week for webinars, panel discussions and speaking events, so it's best to plan ahead. #nationalgriefawarenessweek #wellbeingatwork #griefawareness

Spoiler alert: you’re not a mind reader. Given that everyone experiences grief in their own unique way, what they experience as helpful or unhelpful, will be unique to them, also. This means that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to grief support. Wouldn’t it be nice if we were mind readers, and 'just knew' how to support others. We're not. Wouldn't it be great if there was a ‘this is how you support someone you care about when they are grieving’ checklist!? It would make supporting others so much easier. There is, the internet is littered with such lists, yet my point is, they’re not helpful. The uniqueness of grief makes checklists a nonsense. Yes, there are core things that we know most people find helpful, yet that’s as close as we can get. The reality is that only the person who is grieving can know what they most need at any point in time. So ask: “What do you most need right now?” and take their lead. Ask, rather than assume. It's the only way we can truly honour and support another person's unique grief needs... unless of course you are actually a mind reader, in which case, keep doing what you're doing. #griefsuppportmatters #notamindreader #askratherthanassume I’m Shelley. Bringing conversations about grief into the workplace. Helping businesses increase productivity and retention and build a great place to work. | Workshops for managers and teams | Facilitator, Writer and Keynote speaker
Grief Awareness Week returns for its 5th year on 2nd December 2024. It's a chance to open up conversations about grief and allow us all to support each other better. Obviously, the best thing to do is book one of my webinars. It's an online session on what grief feels like and advice on how colleagues and managers can be more supportive. However, it's not the only idea in town: 🌻 A panel discussion where people share their own experiences of grief and what that has meant to them 🌳 A memorial tree or wall, where people can leave photographs or names of loved ones who have died. 👉 Remind people of support resources available to them 📖 Additional resources on your intranet 🗝️ A discussion of what an inclusive bereavement policy would look like. I only have a limited number of slots available during Grief Awareness Week for webinars, panel discussions and speaking events, so it's best to plan ahead. If you'd like to have a chat just drop me a message. #GriefAwarenessWeek #WorkplaceWellbeing

This week, Transitions Care is honoring Grief Awareness Week—a time to recognize the profound impact of loss and the journey of healing. Grief is a natural response to loss, yet it can be an isolating experience. Whether you've lost a loved one, a cherished relationship, or something deeply meaningful, your feelings are valid, and your journey is unique. 💛 You are not alone. It's okay to grieve in your own way, at your own pace. Reach out to others who understand, or simply allow yourself the space to feel. Healing takes time, and that's perfectly okay. 🌱 Support and compassion are key. Whether you're grieving or supporting someone who is, kindness and understanding make a world of difference. Listen without judgment, offer a shoulder to lean on, or just be present. 🕯️ Remember and honor. Take a moment this week to remember those we've lost and honor their memory in a way that feels right to you. Light a candle, share a memory, or simply hold them in your thoughts. Let’s spread awareness about the importance of grief and the need for compassion in the healing process. Together, we can create a supportive community that understands and nurtures those on this journey. #GriefAwarenessWeek #TransitionsCare #TheTransitionsDifference

Resilient grief, complicated grief, anticipatory grief, disenfranchised grief. This human life is filled with grief.
