Very thankful to Terry Hughes and Ann Michelle Palecki from The Florida Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) for joining us in Miami for an important and timely discussion regarding Florida House Bill 989. Thank you, Peter Rahaghi, for moderating the panel with me and for hosting the event, and to David Schwartz and FIBA for this opportunity. Excellent and informative presentation by OFR. Very helpful to our industry. #bankingindustry #bankinglaw #Floridalaw #regulatorycompliance #FIBA #GTLaw
Thank you to Terry Hughes and Ann Michelle Palecki from the The Florida Office of Financial Regulation for an informative discussion on concerns related to House Bill 989. Kudos to Marina Olman and Peter Rahaghi for a great job moderating and special thanks to Shutts & Bowen LLP for hosting. We're very appreciative of the long standing public/private partnership between FIBA and the OFR that we've enjoyed for more than 40 years and look forward to many more events together!

Premier League Need Top Accountants & Lawyers As well as the likes of Salah and Messi on the pitch doing things that others can’t we have learnt that off the pitch brilliance can also be just as important. We have seen this recently with a 10 point deduction against Everton which has recently been reduced. Get you accounting wrong and it can cost. Stronger rules by The Premier League are to be implemented aiming to prevent clubs from securing inflated deals with entities linked to their owners, imposing sanctions for breaches. These tougher regulations seek to ensure fair market value in sponsorship and transfer transactions, particularly targeting state-connected clubs like Manchester City and Newcastle United. The burden of proof now lies with clubs to demonstrate fairness in deals, with requirements for declarations from associated party directors. Despite some opposition, the majority voted in favour of the changes, reflecting a push for financial fairness and sustainability within the league. In the Times, it reports that City's sponsorship deals for 2022-23 soared to £341.4 million, a staggering increase from £25 million at the time of the Abu Dhabi takeover in 2008. This substantial growth far exceeded that of other English rivals; United's revenues increased 4.7 times to £302.9 million, while Liverpool's rose five times to £272 million during the same period. This significant disparity in commercial revenue underscores the need for stricter regulations to ensure fair competition within the Premier League. Certainly food for thought how Manchester City, who were always under the radar and hardly ever on the world stage, have sponsorship revenues far in excess as world wide historical clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United. Let me have your thoughts. https://lnkd.in/eUZYjKsZ

"A figure of USD $7.36bn (£5.9bn) was spent on transfer fees in the 2023 mid-year window, which represents an increase of 47.2% compared to the 2022 mid-year period and 26.8% compared to the previous mid-year record set in 2019. ... Germany, however, was the number one in terms of receipts from transfer fees (USD $1.11bn) – this being the first time ever that clubs from a single association have received more than USD $1bn in the mid-year transfer window alone." #commissionsearned #transferwindow #itc

Financial Crime Specialist helping business's meet their AML/CTF requirements | Founder @ Grant Compliance Consulting
Why Mounties being contacted by #AUSTRAC should not come as a surprise. Whilst this is the first real instance of AUSTRAC targeting the #Pubs and #Clubs sector, it is backed by a consistent focus on the gaming industry. In recent memory we can look to Bet365, Sportsbet, Crown, Sky City and The Star. It is fair to assume that Mounties was approached by AUSTRAC given it is the largest club in terms of gaming profit, as per Liquor and Gaming NSW. Based on a few articles, it appears that AUSTARC wish to understand Mounties policies and procedures in more depth and assess if they are meeting their #regulatory obligations. I do not see AUSTRAC holding back on this sector, given the additional funding from the 2024 #Budget and the success in identifying non-compliance in this space. For Pubs and Clubs, it comes down to ensuring your #AML Program is compliant and that you understand the ML/TF risks your business face. Getting these two aspects right allows your company to build upon its policies and implement effective processes on ID Collection and Verification, Enhanced Customer Due Diligence, Transaction Monitoring, and Employee Due Diligence (too name a few). It will be interesting to see what occurs in the coming months. Let me know your thoughts below.

Why did we launch a fast & direct service between #Dublin, Liverpool and Iberia? Roger Megann, Managing Director WEC Lines UK, gives you the insights: “WEC Lines has been active in the Irish market for over 30 years from #Portugal and following our successful entry into the Spanish market in 2021 by connecting #Bilbao to #Liverpool our clients in both trades have been requesting WEC Lines to add Dublin and offer a wider product scope." Megan adds: "This was further encouraged when WEC Lines entered the #reefer market at the beginning of 2024 as there is a strong reefer trade between Ireland, Spain and Portugal.” This is a natural progression and evolution of our services which also brings new opportunities between Spain and Portugal to Liverpool as demanded by our clients in both the dry and reefer market to offer increased frequency, faster transits, and deliver reliability. Liverpool will now be called twice a week, as it is also a port of call in the existing NSC UK/PT service. Overall, our commitment to the Irish Sea network will ensure a premium service to our clients. #alwaysclosetoyou #clientsfirst
