Companion Clubs like IMPACT and others not only help Rotary clubs grow but they also serve a great purpose in allowing people who would normally leave your club a chance to continue their Rotary journey.
Remember retention starts with choices.
Every year members leave Rotary because life was getting in the way of them attending your Rotary meetings. A new job, changing schedules, or other commitments shouldn’t mean the end of their Rotary membership.
With Companion Clubs, your members can stay connected to service on THEIR terms.
Rotary is about service, not restrictions. Let’s give members choices when they join and options before they leave.

Experienced Corporate Partnerships Strategist, Consultant, and Educator specializing in associations and non-profits. Dedicated to boosting revenue, enhancing member value, and promoting organizational sustainability.
🇮🇹Sightseeing in Italy reminded me of why associations need Corporate Sponsors.
We had an excellent Tour Director on our trip with Trafalgar. She has been leading tours for 44 years. She has a wealth of expertise in Italian culture, history, architecture, politics, geography, education, agriculture, industry, transportation, health care, religion, and tourism.
However, each day when we stopped in a city or at a landmark for a tour, we had a Local Specialist as our guide who had deeper knowledge.
This is like associations:
➡️Associations have staff with a wealth of expertise to support members and the profession or trade.
➡️Associations need sources of specialized expertise with more detailed, up-date-information for members.
🌟Corporate Sponsors can be like the Local Specialists on our Italy tour … adding a wealth of valuable information that our Tour Director couldn’t provide.
P.S. - The need for Local Specialists was not a negative reflection on our Tour Director. In fact, everyone on the tour thanked our Tour Director for retaining the Local Specialists. Similarly, members thank associations for obtaining useful, educational information from Corporate Sponsors.

One of my favourite events of the year at Rakuten.ca. In today's fast-paced, technology-driven world, it's easy to get caught up in metrics, deadlines, and deliverables. But let's not forget the most crucial element of any successful organization: the people.
Humanizing your team isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a must-have. Here's why:
Boosts Morale and Engagement: When team members feel seen and valued as individuals, their motivation and engagement levels soar. They’re more likely to go the extra mile and contribute their best work.
Fosters Innovation: A culture that celebrates diverse perspectives and encourages open communication leads to creative problem-solving and innovation. When people feel safe to express their ideas, magic happens.
Builds Trust and Loyalty: Trust is the foundation of any strong team. By showing genuine care and empathy, leaders can build lasting relationships that withstand challenges and change.
Enhances Collaboration: Humanized teams are more cohesive. When people understand and respect each other’s strengths and weaknesses, collaboration becomes seamless and more effective.
Improves Well-being: A supportive and understanding work environment contributes to the overall well-being of team members. This not only reduces stress but also promotes a healthier work-life balance.
Remember, at the heart of every successful project, every innovative idea, and every milestone achieved, are people. Let’s make sure we’re not just managing teams, but truly leading and humanizing them.

Yesterday, our team AND their families gathered at Earl Bales Park for what we like to call a Day-O-Fun!
This annual event is one of our favourites of the year as we not only get to bond as a team, but we get to know their families as well.
Did you know that Rotary has four (4) Guiding Principles?
These are;
Of the things we think, say or do -
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Please visit a local Rotary Club to check out the Magic of Rotary!
After the OneTeamGov event on #WSPD 2020, #TowardsZeroSuicide CIC Founder Paul Vittles started working closely with Steve Phillip & The Jordan Legacy CIC, as well as keeping in touch with other #LivedExperience Speakers at that event such as Chukumeka Maxwell, Debbie Rogers, Ian Russell & Sangeeta Mahajan
Paul remained 'freelance', operating through The Vittles Organisation, the business he set up in Jan 2010, working in collaborative partnership with The Jordan Legacy, although, over time, many people started to (erroneously) think of Paul as 'working for' or 'being employed by' The Jordan Legacy.
It was a collaborative partnership.
This included The Jordan Legacy embracing the transformation model that had emerged from Paul's #research & #CommunityEngagement with the global #ZeroSuicide community, plus Paul & Steve:
> running workshops;
> facilitating peer support sessions for those who'd undertaken Mental Health First Aid England training to 'support the supporters';
> highly-regarded & very well-attended online panel discussion events around the key layers in the transformation model;
> commenting on & carrying out research;
> and, later, to initiatives like the #JordansSpace radio show.
Paul wore a few hats, and one coaching/counselling conversation around what to do on the anniversary of losing Jordan led to the first Hope for Life Conference which was a fantastic event, caught on camera by Rashpal Singh Sagoo, inc the highlights video below.
https://lnkd.in/g8nN_zdy
It was at that 2021 #HopeForLifeUK Conference that Paul first met Mike McCarthy and first discussed the concept of what is now the BatonOfHopeUK, and where it was agreed to set up a #BatonOfHopeUK (BoH) Steering Group which met for the first time on 17 Dec 2021, online, attended by the co-creators & co-founders Ian McClure, Mike, Paul & Steve.
Paul & Steve were heavily involved in developing the BoH concept, vision, strategy & plans; drafting website content; creating a larger, more diverse National Organising Committee; and identifying local partners in the locations the Baton was to Tour through.
By Sept 2022, much of that work was done, and BoH was moving more into operational delivery planning.
It was often all-consuming so it was distracting Paul & Steve from their crucial transformational change work in suicide prevention.
The BoH experience was also having adverse impacts on their health, so both Paul & Steve stepped back from the Organising Committee, creating capacity for new initiatives like Jordan's Space and the #ActionResearch project that led to the report 'Moving Towards a Zero Suicide Society', then to the #ZeroSuicideSociety Transformation Programme.
That 2021 Hope for Life Conference stimulated many great ideas that have been developed since and nurtured many great relationships which have evolved & grown since.
There was a 2nd Hope for Life Conference, organised almost entirely by Steve, in Dec 2023 - another huge success.
✨ Behind the Scenes ✨
Last Saturday was a rollercoaster of emotions. I was prepared for a busy and exciting day with two major events: the Seniors Games at the Rugby Union Club and our first cultural coffee event for Peru Day at the Coffee Commune. Andrea and our friend Jun were set to run the show at Norman Park. I was going to help them set up and then head over to the Coffee Commune.
Everything was going smoothly until I tried to start the generator, and it wouldn’t start. Of all days, that was the day the generator failed us. Despite the club's efforts and Mika trying to help us on the phone, after plans A, B, and C didn’t work, we had to give up. I apologized to the club, Jun took the van back home, and Andrea and I had to clear our heads before heading to the Coffee Commune.
The mood wasn't great. I felt sad, overwhelmed, and nervous about the event. I couldn’t understand why this had to happen on such a special day. With Andrea’s help, I shook it off, and we prepared for Peru Day, which turned out to be the complete opposite of my morning! We went from disaster to pure joy! Our event went incredibly well, and the overwhelming support we received was positively uplifting.
I guess life gives us a bit of everything, and we just have to roll with it, maintain the right attitude, and keep moving forward. "If you want the rainbow 🌈, you have to put up with the rain."

Sitting in Cape Town, with Wimbledon, Tour de France and Test Rugby presenting a veritable smorgasbord for sports lovers, and weather warnings escalated from Level 4 to Level 6, one hopes rain falls in the catchment areas to help fill the dams. Of course, we all hope the weather is not damaging as storms have been recently. A cold ocean, mountains and warm temperatures make for interesting weather at the southern tip of Africa. A recent road trip revealed a wet, green Karoo which was absolutely magnificent to travel through.
Walking with a friend on a farm outside Graaff-Reinet, we were chatting about the notion of courage as one we both aspire to, but how moral courage is so much harder to achieve than physical courage?
Jan Christiaan Smuts, known for his moral and physical courage, who passed away in 1950 aged 80, famously said South Africa is a conundrum - it is never as bad as it could be, and never as good as it should be.
With recent election results, and the possible permutations available, we fervently hope the high road has been chosen over the low road?
I am going to be sharing short video's on social media, with a view to encouraging viewers to subscribe to my podcasts on Patreon. Whether they refer to life onboard expedition/cruise ships, historical characters, interviews or amusing tales, we hope to give listeners something interesting to listen to. Alan Weyer's insights into Xhosa Chieftain Maqoma, and Sir Harry Smith, a case in point.
South Africa has a young, tumultuous history - this continues (I refer to Smuts's words) and we have many reasons to be positive.

The Importance of Capacity and Capability in Preserving Sporting Heritage.
In this Sporting Heritage webinar, we explore the challenges of capacity and capability in preserving sporting heritage.
"We don't have the time; we don't have the money to put into this because there are there are things which governing bodies think are probably more of a priority."
"It's not just about collecting things; it's about curating, identifying what's important, and managing the logistics, which are way bigger than I ever imagined."
Volunteers play a crucial role, but they need to feel supported and valued. Providing time, resources, and systems to make their work easier is essential to preserving heritage effectively.
How can we address these challenges to build capacity and capability in sport? Share your thoughts below.
