#NEW from #CTAD2023 | #Amyloid-PET positivity cut-offs: insights from INTERCEPT-AD 🎥 🧠 Eric Siemers MD, MD, Acumen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., explores the application of #positronemissiontomography (PET) imaging to determine #amyloid positivity in #Alzheimersdisease (AD) #clinicaltrials, with reference to the Phase I INTERCEPT-AD trial (NCT04931459) 🌟 In this trial, #PETscans with a standardized uptake value ratio (SUVR) greater than 1.2 were labeled as #amyloid positive, while those with SUVR less than 1.0 were considered amyloid negative 🌟 Those with an SUVR between these values underwent further analysis by an expert to determine amyloid status, leading to the inclusion of some individuals with low #centiloid values 🌟 Emerging research suggests that these patients may respond better to amyloid-targeting therapy, so should be included in clinical trials. 🚨Eli Lilly's Alzheimer's drug, donanemab, received the approval from FDA advisers! This could be a breakthrough for those with early-stage Alzheimer's.💊 If the FDA approves it later this year, donanemab will be only the second drug in the U.S. proven to slow cognitive decline. Similar to Leqembi, this new treatment shows positive response despite some side effects like brain swelling and bleeding.🧠 While there are still questions about the best way to use this drug, experts are hopeful.
