Digital Health | Patient-Centricity | Healthcare Innovation </> Sr Business Development Director at Dawn Health - launching SaMD products for life science companies
How much #innovation gets lost in #healthcare because it does not fit existing care paradigms? To be fair, the systems are set up to be safe, effective, and (most importantly) manageable. But what if new technology or approaches could bring a benefit that does not fit the current mold? One such idea could be #digitaltherapeutics from the article below. While there seems to be an unmet need and efficacy of treatments are increased, the commercial model just does not seem to fit (yet). Physician prescriptions and payer coverage still pose a major hurdle that seems larger than for new drugs. "The demand for access to healthcare at home is clearly there, as evidenced by the pandemic, but the question is whether the appetite exists for payers and healthcare systems to afford the asking price for the space to remain sustainable."
Is digital therapeutics innovation enough for a sustainable future?

Health systems strengthening| Making Healthcare Accessible to underserved populations in Africa using technology and human centred design | Healthcare digitisation in Africa
The challenge is even greater in Africa where even the basic supporting infrastructure is lacking. You can build the system/service, patients want it, but there's poor internet connectivity, for example. Challenges like this make it look like some founders are 'building for the rich' but the truth is that it isn't the founders fault that certain services aren't yet available where 'it is most needed'. This is really where cross sectional collaboration between healthcare and other sectors makes the difference.

This article shows the potential of employing digital strategy in the life cycle for patients. While the focus here is primarily on the Commercial side - a twist to this solution can be fit to purpose for the Clinical Trial Space as well. Creating digital solutions that advance new therapies - can be evolved into a "life partner" for patients and caregivers - essentially providing support to patients from the moment of the trial through their disease journey. Not only could this be leveraged to aid the patients toward better health outcomes - but for Pharma it would provide a method of building stronger trust with the patient and patient community.
