It takes more than just strong passwords to ensure secure backend product development. That's why we prioritize security through a "defense in depth" strategy, deploying multiple independent layers of protection throughout the entire engineering lifecycle, from architecture to deployment. This approach isn't just about passwords or perimeter defenses; it involves granular access controls, encryption standards, and advanced monitoring techniques at every layer of the technology stack: 1. User Interface (UI): Secure authentication mechanisms and user session management. 2. Application Layer: Rigorous input validation, error handling, and API security to prevent injection attacks. 3. Data Layer: Database encryption, role-based access controls (RBAC), and real-time anomaly detection. Each component is engineered to safeguard data integrity and confidentiality, even in the face of potential breaches. This multi-layered approach allows us to anticipate and mitigate threats at every stage, ensuring a resilient architecture that's prepared for evolving risks. Our focus on consistently high security standards is why clients trust our work on mission-critical systems that demand the highest levels of protection. #Cybersecurity #BackendSecurity #DefensiveArchitecture

Engineering skills are important, but excellent communication is required for product outcome excellence. Recently, Presence CEO Jason Monberg was asked what it takes to be a valuable contributor to development projects. His response? "It's all about being an effective communicator. At development rituals like standups, with end-users, within your team, and across departments. If you're not communicating regularly and broadly, you're missing context that matters for the best product outcome." #softskills #communication #tech

Should all developers at your company get full access to AI coding tools? Instead of enabling full access right away, our VP of Engineering/CISO, Eric M., recommends that all newly joining developers start without access to them so that they learn your codebase and its context within your company's projects. What Eric recommends if your new hire is an experienced developer: • "AI-generated code is most beneficial for senior developers. It can accelerate the development process by quickly generating boilerplate code, allowing experienced developers to focus on more complex, unique challenges." • Caveat: Senior developers who are new additions to a company or team should be given a brief period without AI code tool access (30 days, or 1-2 sprints) to acclimate to and understand your codebase. What he recommends if your new hire is a junior developer: • "It's a different story. They need to learn programming fundamentals, including thinking critically, solving problems, and debugging within your system. Over-reliance on AI tools at an early stage can hinder this learning process." There are several concerns for premature access: • Quality Assurance: The code generated by these tools isn't always reliable—junior developers might not have the experience to identify bugs, inefficiencies, or security issues. • Problem-Solving: AI works by reproducing existing solutions, which means it can't help with unique business challenges. Delegating problem-solving work to AI will not return novel solutions, and worse, your developers will not learn how to become problem-solvers themselves. • Learning Curve: Junior developers need time to understand a company's codebase and patterns before they start using AI tools. At the end of the day, regardless of the level of seniority and/or use of AI tools, ALL CODE should be treated to pull requests and code reviews because they are essential to the quality and integrity of the work. #AIDevelopment #SoftwareEngineering #TechLeadership

What if product leaders reframed quality assurance and what we see as risk—and considered that one of the biggest risks for your digital product may not be technical failure, but a failure to meet its full potential? After last month's annual quality assurance event at our Belgrade Studio, check out this article delving into how QA plays a crucial role in launching products that surpass expectations and outperform the competition: https://lnkd.in/eQbqDxut

Knowledge is power, and we are proud to spotlight companies that are working hard to find and share useful information to protect the planet. Vibrant Planet Data Commons, the nonprofit arm of Vibrant Planet, is on a mission to increase the pace and scale of forest restoration by making novel data products available for scientific and educational pursuits. They accomplish this by translating curated data into stories that show how communities can create and lead targeted solutions. Check out this recent example, where they share Wildfire Ignition Probability data from Pyrologix, a subsidiary of Vibrant Planet. This forward-looking fire ignition probability model integrates climatic, vegetation, topographic, and human influence factors to model where fires may occur, regardless of fire history. With fire behavior changing rapidly, a dynamic model is essential to move toward healthier landscapes and safer communities. Find more: https://lnkd.in/gfuaBhf6
