📢 Attention Healthcare Professionals! 🩺📚 The Department of Health and Social Care has issued vital updates on GLP-1 supply issues and Rybelsus prescribing guidelines. 🗓️ Deadline: Complete these actions by March 28, 2024: 1️⃣ Prescribe GLP-1 RAs strictly for licensed indications. 2️⃣ Initiate new GLP-1 RA treatments with Rybelsus® tablets, as per NICE NG28. 3️⃣ Transition patients from Byetta® and Victoza® injections to Rybelsus® tablets, aligning with NICE NG28. 4️⃣ Educate patients about any drug, formulation, and dosage changes. 5️⃣ Review patients on GLP-1 RAs, focusing on: a. Stopping GLP1-RA if treatment goals aren't met (NICE NG28/CG189). b. Avoiding dosage doubling when higher doses are unavailable. c. Not switching strengths based solely on availability. d. Prescribing responsibly to protect supply chains and patient needs. 6️⃣ Employ shared decision-making for alternative treatments, following NICE guidelines and clinical advice. 7️⃣ Encourage patient participation in education and weight management programs. This World Pharmacists Day💊, I'm reflecting on how we can better support pharmacists to unlock the triple value of self-care across economies, individuals and communities. Pharmacists are vital healthcare professionals at the forefront of self-care delivery; yet, during my time at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Congress 2024 earlier this month, I was struck by some of the challenges facing the profession. In line with this year’s theme for #WPD2024 "Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs", we have an opportunity to expand self-care and sustainability through pharmacy, but in order to achieve this, we need to rethink how pharmacy is seen within our healthcare systems worldwide. So, what can we do? Here are some thoughts to consider that were heightened during my attendance at the FIP congress: 🖼️ Let’s reframe our perceptions of pharmacy - instead of “minor ailments" why aren’t we calling it "common clinical conditions"? 📖 Support enhanced health literacy - not only to empower patients to make informed decisions, but also to recognize the value of pharmaceutical expertise 👂 Listen to the challenges as told by pharmacists - to enact change, we must work together The road ahead is long but, together, we can advance into a future where self-care is synonymous with sustainability, efficiency and economic viability. #Opella #HealthInYourHands

Pharmacists are integral to our health-care systems, often being the first point of contact for health advice and primary health care, as well as addressing the health needs of our populations in many varied ways, including: ensuring access to and providing guidance on essential medicines and medical devices, including diagnostic tests and assistive products; providing expertise for patient care and public health; promoting disease prevention, such as by administering vaccines, conducting health screening, educating patients, and helping to improve health literacy; supporting public health campaigns; participating in the research and development of new medicines;

October is American National Pharmacists Month, a month dedicated to highlighting the crucial role pharmacists play in our health and well-being. This month is especially significant for Kyle Hui, PharmD BCGP, LifeLong’s Pharmacy Director, and only pharmacist. Pharmacists like Hui are essential to healthcare organizations and play a critical role in ensuring optimal patient care, medication safety, and improved health outcomes. Pharmacists work alongside other healthcare professionals to provide patient-centered, team-based care, which includes counseling patients on medication use, managing medication therapy, and addressing medication-related problems. Their expertise helps expand access to care, improve medication adherence, and reduce healthcare costs. The patient-centered care is what attracted Hui to LifeLong. “I felt like I wanted to use the knowledge that I have to help the providers here and the patients to get what they need,” he said. As LifeLong’s only pharmacist, Hui’s responsibilities are extensive and vital. He not only orders medications for the dispensaries but also oversees the vaccine program and acts as the liaison between LifeLong and local pharmacies. Additionally, Hui and his staff ensure LifeLong’s compliance with the intricate federal 340B program, which mandates drug manufacturers provide discounts to low-income and uninsured patients. #AmericanPharmacistsMonth #ThankAPharmacist #PharmacyMonth #PharmacyHeroes

I may not be calculating peak & troughs, adjusting Warfarin, or advising Uncle Lim on his osteoarthritis - but: •⁠ ⁠If the 30-min CME means improved SOC somewhere, someday - 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆; •⁠ ⁠If the 5-min chat with Dr X means better health outcomes for his/her patients - 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆; •⁠ ⁠If the evidence-based response to query means better timing of administration - 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆; •⁠ ⁠If the educational online module actually sparked a lightbulb - 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆; •⁠ ⁠If the seemingly flimsy newsletter was picked up by a HCP & aided better clinical considerations - 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆. ... or perhaps you'd think this isn't Pharmacy - 𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝘁.
