This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Ian Fairlamb from the University of York, as part of the Invited Speaker Programme. Prof. Fairlamb discussed how to improve outcomes of palladium-catalysed reactions for discovery and process chemistry. We thank Prof. Fairlamb for his visit! This workshop is part of the holistic strategy of NFDI4Chem to increase the uptake of FAIR data publishing in chemistry by interfacing with the academic publishers. The importance of this topic to publishers was demonstrated by the fact that no fewer than 14 editors, representing 9 publishers active in chemistry, attended the three-hour workshop. https://bit.ly/3S8LVBJ #chemistry #Chemie #researchdata #Forschungsdaten #rdm #NFDI4Chem #fairdata #workshop #forschung #forschungsdatenmanagement #fdm #studieren

On this day in science September 19 : Russian chemist Alexander Butlerov first presented a definition for "chemical structure" on this day in 1861 Chemical structure refers to the way atoms are arranged within molecules. Butlerov realised that chemical compounds are not a random cluster of atoms and functional groups, but structures with definite order. #chemistry #science #scienceandtechnology #sciencecommunication #organicchemistry #pharmaceuticalindustry #onthisday

About Beryllium 🔍 Just read an interesting article titled "A nucleophilic beryllyl complex via metathesis at [Be–Be]2+" from Nature. As someone relatively new to beryllium chemistry, I was surprised to learn about the reactivity analogies with diborane! Thanks a lot to the Simon Aldridge group for University of Oxford for this study. This article showcases a novel approach to synthesizing a nucleophilic beryllyl complex through metathesis at the [Be–Be]2+ bond. The implications of this research are significant, as it opens new pathways in organometallic chemistry and expands our "limited" understanding of beryllium's reactivity. #Chemistry #InorganicChemistry #Beryllium #Organometallics #Research

UNITED ITALY AND CHEMICAL STRUCTURE! Italians associate the year 1861, and precisely March 17, to the constitution of the Kingdom of Italy. For the first time, Italy, always a fragmented country dominated by many foreign powers, becomes a single entity. After about six months, and precisely on September 19, 1861, the Russian Alexander Butlerov presents for the first time the concept of "Chemical Structure". From then on, compounds will no longer be imagined as a set of randomly distributed atoms but these are part of well-defined entities. And each atom participates in a chemical structure (molecule) linked by specific bonds. Italy and Chemical Structure may seem like a "forced parallelism" but both indicate a sense of "unity" and "identity". #chemicalstructure #AlexanderButlerov
